Position Overview

Deluxe is seeking an AI Engineer to design, build, evaluate, and integrate AI-powered services across media, localization, automation, and workflow platforms. This role will focus on applied AI engineering: turning models, tools, and emerging AI capabilities into practical services that Deluxe applications and teams can use.

The AI Engineer will work across agentic workflows, model evaluation, APIs, orchestration, AI service development, data pipelines, and integrations with internal and client-facing applications. The role may also support model training, fine-tuning, prompt and workflow evaluation, and experimentation with commercial and open-source models. The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer with hands-on AI experience who can move from prototype to production in partnership with AI platform, cloud infrastructure, and application engineering teams.

This role is closely aligned with Deluxe's broader AI and workflow automation efforts, including the design of intelligent agents, AI-driven automation, backend workflow integration, and production-ready tools that create measurable business impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, build, and integrate AI-powered services, APIs, workflows, and automation capabilities.
• Develop agentic workflows and AI orchestration patterns that can be used by Deluxe applications and internal teams.
• Build and maintain scalable backend services using Python and frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar technologies.
• Integrate AI-driven components with internal and external services through REST APIs, message queues, event-driven systems, or workflow orchestration tools.
• Evaluate commercial, open-source, and internally hosted models for quality, latency, cost, reliability, and fit for purpose.
• Build prototypes and production-ready services using LLMs, speech models, language models, or other AI capabilities.
• Experiment with AI/LLM APIs, model providers, frameworks, and orchestration tools to identify practical solutions for business workflows.
• Partner with product, operations, and engineering teams to identify AI use cases and translate them into technical solutions.
• Support model evaluation, testing, benchmarking, prompt evaluation, and quality measurement.
• Build integrations between AI services and existing Deluxe applications, workflow tools, data sources, and operational systems.
• Work with AI Platform Engineers to package, deploy, monitor, and operate AI services in production.
• Contribute to reusable AI engineering patterns, libraries, APIs, documentation, and best practices.
• Support training, fine-tuning, data preparation, or experimentation activities where needed.
• Stay current with emerging AI models, frameworks, agentic patterns, and applied AI techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience building software systems, APIs, data services, automation platforms, or AI-enabled applications.
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML, LLMs, agentic workflows, model integration, or applied AI development.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with modern software engineering practices.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and backend systems using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar technologies.
• Experience integrating models, AI APIs, or AI services into production or near-production systems.
• Understanding of APIs, microservices, data pipelines, asynchronous programming, orchestration, testing, and deployment practices.
• Experience automating or optimizing complex workflows using AI, NLP, OCR, rules engines, RPA, or workflow orchestration tools.
• Ability to evaluate model outputs, design experiments, compare approaches, and communicate technical tradeoffs.
• Experience working collaboratively with platform, infrastructure, DevOps, product, and application teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with LLM frameworks, agent orchestration, RAG, vector databases, prompt evaluation, workflow automation, or model benchmarking.
• Experience with OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Vertex AI, Hugging Face, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar AI platforms and frameworks.
• Experience with workflow engines or orchestration platforms such as Temporal, Step Functions, Airflow, or similar tools.
• Experience with speech, language, localization, dubbing, media workflows, ASR, MT, TTS, or content-processing systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD, model-serving platforms, MLOps tooling, or production AI deployment.
• Experience with open-source and commercial AI models and the ability to recommend when to build, buy, partner, or integrate.
• Experience supporting model training, fine-tuning, dataset preparation, or evaluation pipelines.
• Familiarity with reliability, security, privacy, and governance considerations for AI systems.
