Level: Senior / Lead

About the Company

Our client is a privately owned restoration company serving residential and commercial customers throughout the greater Los Angeles market. The company provides emergency restoration, mitigation, reconstruction, and related property services in a fast-moving, operationally complex environment.

The leadership team is focused on using technology, automation, and modern AI tools to improve visibility, accountability, speed, and profitability across the business. This is not a traditional software role inside a technology company. This is a builder role inside a real operating business where the systems you create will directly affect field operations, customer communication, financial reporting, job performance, and leadership decision-making.

Role Overview

We are looking for a senior engineer who can build intelligent internal systems from the ground up. This person will work directly with ownership and leadership to understand business problems, define the technical path forward, and ship working tools quickly.

You will use AI-first development tools, agentic frameworks, APIs, and modern full-stack engineering practices to create internal systems that help the company operate more efficiently. You will be responsible for turning executive ideas, operational pain points, and fragmented data into usable products that the company can rely on every day.

This is a founding-engineer style role with real ownership. You will not be joining a large engineering department. You will be the person responsible for designing, building, documenting, launching, and improving the internal AI and automation systems the company runs on.

What You Will Build

This role will focus on creating intelligent tools that sit on top of existing restoration business systems, financial systems, communication platforms, and operational data. Initial projects may include:

  • Data integration layer: Connect restoration management software, accounting systems, CRM tools, communication platforms, and other internal systems into a unified data layer that leadership can query and use.

  • Executive briefing system: Build automated weekly and daily reporting for ownership, pulling KPIs such as revenue, gross margin, job volume, estimate volume, technician productivity, collections, lead sources, conversion rates, and AR trends.

  • Meeting intelligence pipeline: Create a system that ingests recorded leadership or management meetings, transcribes them, summarizes decisions, and produces structured follow-up items by department, manager, deadline, and commitment.

  • Accountability log: Build a persistent, searchable system that tracks commitments across managers, flags missed follow-ups, and gives leadership visibility into who committed to what and when.

  • Ad-hoc analysis agents: Develop AI workflows that allow leaders to ask plain-English business questions such as which jobs are underperforming, which lead sources are producing profitable work, where documentation is slipping, or why margins changed month over month.

  • Operational exception detection: Build systems that monitor data for anomalies, including labor inefficiency, job delays, documentation gaps, pricing issues, missed follow-ups, slow collections, and profitability concerns.

  • Field and customer communication tools: Help create internal workflows that improve response time, customer updates, job handoffs, and visibility between office teams and field teams.

Core Responsibilities
  • Translate leadership requests into technical scopes, PRDs, system designs, and working products

  • Build and maintain scalable full-stack applications, internal dashboards, data tools, and automation workflows

  • Design and deploy AI agents and workflow automation tools that solve real business problems

  • Connect third-party business systems using APIs and structured data pipelines

  • Own the full lifecycle of internal tools, including discovery, scoping, development, testing, documentation, launch, and iteration

  • Build clean, reliable, and well-documented systems that can be maintained and expanded over time

  • Manage your own deployments, integrations, cloud environments, databases, and CI/CD workflows

  • Work directly with ownership, operations, finance, sales, and production leadership to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement

  • Protect sensitive financial, customer, employee, and business data with strict confidentiality

Technical Requirements
  • 5+ years of full-stack development experience

  • Strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, APIs, and modern web application architecture

  • Experience building scalable backend services and reliable database structures

  • Strong SQL and/or NoSQL database experience

  • Hands-on experience using AI-first development tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, or similar platforms

  • Experience working with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or equivalent tools

  • Familiarity with agentic frameworks such as LangChain, AutoGPT-style workflows, or custom agent development

  • Experience integrating third-party business systems through APIs

  • Comfort working with transcription, summarization, or meeting intelligence tools

  • Ability to move quickly without sacrificing documentation, quality, or system reliability

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with restoration, construction, home services, field services, or trades-based businesses

  • Experience integrating with platforms such as DASH, Xactimate, XactAnalysis, ServiceTitan, Salesforce, QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, or similar systems

  • Experience building executive dashboards, KPI reporting tools, or operational intelligence systems

  • Experience working directly with owners, CEOs, COOs, or non-technical business leaders

  • Experience in a lean, entrepreneurial company where speed, ownership, and practical execution matter

The Ideal Candidate

The right person is both an architect and a builder. You can listen to a business problem, define the system, build the tool, launch it, and improve it based on feedback.

You should be:

  • Strategic enough to understand business objectives

  • Technical enough to build the product yourself

  • Autonomous enough to define milestones and execute without heavy management

  • Practical enough to avoid over engineering

  • Quality-focused enough to build systems that are stable and usable

  • Discreet enough to handle sensitive financial, operational, customer, and employee data

  • Comfortable working on-site with leadership and operators in a real business environment

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means the company has better visibility, faster decision-making, stronger accountability, and more efficient operations because of the systems you build.

The right person will help leadership answer critical business questions faster, identify operational problems sooner, reduce manual reporting, improve follow-through, and create internal tools that make the company more scalable.

This role is about business impact, not just clean code. The systems you build should directly improve how the company runs.

Compensation

Compensation will be competitive and based on experience, technical capability, and demonstrated ability to build practical AI-enabled business systems. Final compensation details will be discussed with qualified candidates.

Confidentiality Notice

This is a confidential search conducted on behalf of a privately held restoration company. To protect the privacy of the employer, identifying company details have been intentionally generalized in this job description.
