The Role
The AI Enablement Lead will facilitate AI adoption across Axios by partnering with teams, providing guidance, conducting training, and ensuring responsible AI use, ultimately leading to improved productivity and teamwork.
Summary Generated by Built In

1 big thing: Axios is a growth-focused media company dedicated to helping people get smarter, faster on what matters. As we expand how we build and scale technology, this role helps ensure our teams can effectively adopt and apply new tools.

The AI Enablement Lead serves as a connective partner across the organization, helping departments translate ideas into actionable AI-supported workflows. This role emphasizes partnership, guidance, and accessibility. It supports teams in understanding the problems they are trying to solve, identifying where AI can help, and navigating a clear path from concept to execution.
Why it matters: As the company’s first dedicated AI Enablement Lead, you will act as the central point of contact for AI across Axios. You will be the face of AI within the organization, building trust, providing clarity, and creating approachable pathways for teams to engage with AI in their work. You will translate complex technical concepts into clear, practical guidance, helping teams understand when and how to use AI to improve productivity while upholding responsible usage standards.
Rather than defining AI strategy for teams, you will partner with departments to help them achieve their own goals. You will provide guidance, structured support, and targeted learning where needed. You will also drive consistent communication around AI efforts, ensuring teams understand what is possible, what is working, and how to move forward.

Go deeper: While this role sits within the Product, Design, and Technology department, you will partner closely with Talent Management and HR to align AI enablement with broader competency frameworks, career development goals, and employee learning strategies. This ensures that support is not one-off, but contributes to long-term capability building across the organization.

This role bridges technology and business needs. It focuses on helping teams make meaningful progress, not just increasing awareness.

Responsibilities:

Department Partnership & Advisory
  • Act as a trusted partner and sounding board for teams exploring AI opportunities
  • Help departments clearly define the problems they are trying to solve before recommending tools or approaches
  • Guide teams in identifying practical, achievable paths to implement AI in their workflows
  • Support teams through early-stage ideation, experimentation, and refinement of AI use cases
  • Meet teams where they are. Provide tailored support based on their level of familiarity and confidence
Office Hours & Ongoing Support
  • Host regular office hours to provide accessible, real-time support for teams across the company
  • Offer ad hoc guidance to individuals and teams working through specific challenges or ideas
  • Create an approachable environment where employees feel comfortable asking questions and exploring possibilities
  • Serve as a consistent, visible resource for AI-related questions and problem-solving
Targeted Training & Enablement
  • Deliver focused, practical training sessions based on real team needs and use cases
  • Provide learning opportunities such as workshops, demos, and guided working sessions
  • Support teams in applying AI tools directly to their workflows rather than teaching abstract concepts
  • Partner with Talent Management and HR to align learning efforts with broader development frameworks
Communication & Visibility
  • Own and drive clear, consistent communication about AI across the organization
  • Share updates, success stories, and examples of how teams are using AI effectively
  • Help demystify AI by translating complex concepts into accessible, practical language
  • Establish yourself as the recognizable and approachable face of AI at Axios
Responsible Use & Best Practices
  • Promote thoughtful, responsible use of AI tools across teams
  • Provide guidance on appropriate use cases, limitations, and risks
  • Develop and share lightweight best practices that teams can easily adopt
  • Ensure teams are equipped to use AI safely while still moving quickly
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
  • Maintain simple, actionable resources that support teams as they implement AI
  • Capture and share repeatable patterns, playbooks, and examples from across departments
  • Reduce duplication by helping teams learn from each other’s approaches and outcomes
Organizational Collaboration
  • Partner with leaders and managers to understand team goals and where AI can support them
  • Help identify gaps in understanding, tooling, or workflow design that may block progress
  • Align support efforts with department-level priorities rather than introducing standalone initiatives

Skills:

  • Strong curiosity about emerging AI technologies and a desire to continuously learn
  • Strong communication skills. Able to translate technical concepts into accessible guidance
  • Practical understanding of AI tools and how they apply to real-world workflows
  • Ability to break down ambiguous problems and guide teams toward clear solutions
  • Experience facilitating discussions, workshops, or advisory sessions with cross-functional teams
  • Comfort operating as a visible, approachable point of contact across an organization
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on enabling others rather than directing them
  • Ability to balance structure with flexibility when supporting a wide range of team needs
What success looks like:
  • Teams across Axios view this role as a trusted partner for AI-related problem solving
  • Departments are able to move from ideas to execution with clear support and guidance
  • Office hours and advisory support are actively used and valued across the organization
  • AI adoption grows through practical, team-driven use cases rather than top-down mandates
  • Communication around AI is clear, consistent, and widely understood
  • Teams feel confident experimenting with AI and applying it to their work responsibly
  • Knowledge and successful approaches are shared across departments, accelerating progress overall

Starting salary for this role is in the range of $130,000 - $165,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account the cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
