The Position

AI Developer

The recent Generative AI (GenAI) Revolution has provided Roche with tremendous opportunities to expedite the realization of the Pharma 2030 Vision. 

The Data Strategy and Delivery(DSD) AI team in PD Data Sciences and Analytics at Roche is seeking a highly skilled technical expert with in-depth AI experience to drive the technical directions and to ensure strong business impacts. DSD AI team aims to establish an AI augmented workforce to enhance productivity, accelerate decision making and bring opportunities for growth and innovation in DSD.

As a subject matter expert with a strategic vision, you will play an important role as a technical developer, developing and implementing highly impactful AI solutions in particular Large Language Models (LLM) to enhance our business processes. Your efforts will accelerate acquisition, review, integration and analysis from multimodal data assets from various sources, driving advancements in Research and Development.

The Opportunity

• You are partnering with Data Scientists and cross-functional teams to tackle complex problems using AI/ML,  building end to end applications, and maintaining production-grade AI solutions, including data ingestion, model deployment, front-end integration, performance monitoring, logging, and post-deployment iterations.

• You are building and optimizing data pipelines and deployment pipelines for ML models.

• You are deploying models and tuning them for optimal performance.

• You are documenting and communicating design and implementation details effectively.

• You are collaborating with stakeholders and informatics departments for scalable solutions.

• You are serving as a technical point of contact for enterprise wide technologies solutions and leading complex troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis.

• You are mentoring and coaching data engineers in the AI domain.

Who You Are

• You hold a Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering) with a life science background, or a Life Sciences degree with significant computational experience, or equivalent. You bring 5+ years of working experience in Data Science/ML engineering.

• You have hands-on experience in developing LLM applications—integrating them into business processes quickly and reliably, including prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), code interpretation, and other cutting-edge NLP techniques.

• You are skilled in building end-to-end applications with front-end integration (using frameworks like Streamlit, Dash, or modern JavaScript) and have a solid grasp of web API development and CI/CD pipelines.

• You are proficient in Python for data science (pandas, scikit-learn, etc.) and NLP (NLTK, Hugging Face Transformers, Gensim). Experience in R is a plus but not mandatory. 

• You have strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with relational databases as well as modern cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery). 

• You excel in both problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues. You thrive in diverse and virtual teams, bringing clarity to complex projects.
