About the Role
At Matillion, we’re on a mission to eliminate friction in data engineering and supercharge productivity through the power of AI. As part of the Product organisation, our Data Science team is laser-focused on two things: pioneering how artificial intelligence and machine learning are woven into our products, and understanding how our customers use those products to drive continuous innovation.
This AI Architect role sits at the heart of that mission. You’ll lead the integration of cutting-edge machine learning into our platform—especially our natural language user interface within the Data Productivity Cloud—helping users turn thoughts into pipelines with just a few words. You’ll also expand AI across pipeline features, enabling data engineers to effortlessly handle the ever-growing variety of unstructured data. We value in-person collaboration here at Matillion, therefore this role will ideally follow our hybrid work structure where employees work 2 days a week in the Manchester office. However, we can be flexible for the right person.
What you will be doing
- Lead Innovation: Design and deploy advanced Generative AI (Gen AI) solutions directly into Matillion’s product ecosystem.
- Empower Users: Optimize and evolve our natural language interface to make data workflows intuitive, intelligent, and seamless.
- Push Boundaries: Apply advanced AI patterns like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), hierarchical agents, and agentic swarms.
- Deliver Reliability: Implement evaluation and monitoring frameworks to ensure AI solutions are robust, accurate, and trustworthy.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with engineers, product managers, and researchers to turn bold ideas into production-ready features.
- Mentor & Inspire: Guide and grow a team of AI enthusiasts, fostering a culture of curiosity, creativity, and continuous learning.
What we are looking for
- Hands-On AI Experience: Proven track record building and deploying Gen AI solutions using modern cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Bedrock).
- Pattern Power: Deep understanding of RAG models, agent workflows, and multi-agent systems.
- Operational Know-How: Familiarity with GenAIOps, AI security, and responsible AI practices.
- Builder's Mindset: Bonus points for experience with APIs, CI/CD, JavaScript, and cloud-native development.
- Curious & Collaborative: Eager to explore, share knowledge, and learn from others in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong Leadership: Ability to mentor others, lead initiatives, and bring teams together around bold, AI-driven goals.

At Matillion, we are committed to providing competitive salaries in line with market standards. Our estimated compensation range for this position is £112,320 - £168,480, but the final salary will be based on your relevant skills, experience and qualifications demonstrated in the hiring process.
