Role Overview:
As an AI & Analytics Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers and analysts to develop data-driven solutions that enhance operational efficiency, customer experience, and strategic decision-making across Sonoco’s global business units.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for AI and analytics applications.
Assist in building predictive models, dashboards, and data visualizations using tools like Python, Power BI, and SQL.
Support the development and deployment of machine learning algorithms for business use cases.
Conduct exploratory data analysis and present actionable insights.
Participate in vendor selection and technology evaluation processes.
Document findings, create presentations, and share results with stakeholders.
Learn and apply principles of incident, change, and problem management in a corporate IT environment.
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with Python, R, SQL, or similar programming languages.
Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Prior internship or project experience in analytics or AI is a plus.
Learning Outcomes:
Data Wrangling & Preprocessing – learn how to clean, transform, and prepare raw datasets for analysis using tools like Python(Pandas, NumPy) or R.
Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) & Visualization – understand and perform EDA to uncover patterns, trends, and anomalies, and communicate findings using visual tools like Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Power BI/Tableau.
Business Context & Communication – learn how to translate and communicate technical findings into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
Collaboration & Agile Practices - learn how to contribute effectively to team projects using version control (e.g., Git), participates in stand-ups, and documents work clearly.
Statistical Thinking & Modeling - understand basic statistical concepts (e.g., distributions, hypothesis testing, regression) and how to apply them to real-world problems.
Power BI Report Development & Visualization - learn to design and build interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI using appropriate visuals, filters, and slicers.
Power BI Data Modeling & DAX – learn how to create efficient data models and write basic to intermediate DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for calculated columns, measures, and KPIs.
