Agronomy Operations Manager

Overall Job Function:

The Agronomy Operations Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating day-to-day agronomy operations with a primary focus on chemical and fertilizer application, cover crop, inventory management, equipment readiness, employee training, safety, and regulatory compliance.

This position provides hands-on leadership to ensure application operations are completed safely, efficiently, accurately, and on schedule. The ideal candidate is an experienced agronomy professional with strong operational and leadership skills who can manage people, equipment, products, and logistics during both peak application seasons and the off-season.

Essential Job Functions:

Manage daily chemical, fertilizer application operations.

Schedule application crews, equipment, products, and field activities.

Ensure accurate, efficient, and timely applications in accordance with product labels and regulations.

Oversees training & equipment maintenance position to ensure that equipment is kept in good working order and required training is done in a timely manner.

Manage chemical, fertilizer, and seed inventory, including receiving, storage, usage, and recordkeeping.

Train, supervise, and develop application personnel, including required safety and regulatory training.

Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Oversee maintenance, calibration, and readiness of application equipment and related facilities.

Assist with staffing, budgeting, cost control, and seasonal operational planning.

Work closely with agronomy staff, customers, and other departments to meet application needs.

Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in agronomy, agricultural application, or related operations.

Experience with chemical, fertilizer, and/or anhydrous ammonia application.

Previous supervisory or leadership experience.

Strong understanding of agricultural product handling and application safety.

Ability to train employees and manage multiple operational priorities.

Commercial pesticide applicator license or applicable certification preferred.

Class A CDL or the ability to acquire. 

Acceptable driving record. 

Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and varying schedules during peak seasons.

Work Requirements: 

This position is based in a fast-paced agricultural setting and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate but occasionally may be loud. PPE will be provided and must be utilized according to safety standards. Typical working hours are based on customer and organizational demand; hours may be long, irregular and include weekends and holidays during peak season.

While performing job functions the employee will be required to talk and hear most of the time. The employee will spend frequent intervals moving and sitting, while also needing to climb ladders, work at heights, reach, bend, twist, crawl, crouch, stoop or kneel. The employee will need to be able to lift up to 75 pounds frequently and maneuver on and off mobile equipment. The physicality of this job is high.
