Williams Lea seeks an Agile Project Manager to join our team!

Williams Lea is the leading global provider of skilled, technology-enabled, business-critical support services, with long-term trusted relationships with blue-chip clients across investment banks, law firms and professional services firms. Williams Lea employees, nearly 7000 people worldwide, who provide efficient business services at client sites in often complex and highly regulated environments, from centralised Williams Lea onshore facilities, and through best cost company offshore locations.

Purpose of role

The Agile Project Manager is a hybrid delivery role within the Global Engineering team at Williams Lea, combining structured Scrum practice with project governance and release coordination. Operating at SFIA Level 4, this role is allocated to a single engineering tribe and is accountable for its end-to-end delivery health — enabling the team to operate effectively across BAU agile sprints, small-to-medium waterfall and hybrid projects, and controlled production releases within defined governance frameworks.

The Agile Project Manager works closely with the tribe’s Technical Product Owner, Engineering Manager, and Scrum Master (where applicable), and maintains regular, ad hoc engagement with the Product Manager to ensure alignment on priorities, roadmap, and delivery outcomes. The role also collaborates with the Senior Scrum Master/Coach to uphold agile practice standards and continuously improve ways of working and is responsible for coaching the tribe on agile best practices, actively embedding and enforcing Williams Lea’s ways of working, and acting as the primary delivery point of contact for the tribe.

In addition to supporting continuous, iterative delivery through agile frameworks, the Agile Project Manager will take ownership of activities with fixed client delivery dates or non-negotiable milestones by managing them as discrete “mini projects” using a structured waterfall approach. This includes establishing clear delivery plans, defining milestones, managing dependencies, and maintaining robust governance artefacts such as RAID logs (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies), status reporting, and delivery tracking to ensure commitments are met in a controlled and auditable manner.

The role serves as a key contributor to the weekly Delivery Review, providing clear visibility of progress, risks, and outcomes, and supports the Head of Delivery in quarterly planning activities, ensuring alignment between strategic priorities, committed deliverables, and execution readiness.

Key responsibilities

Agile Delivery – BAU Scrum

  • Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies to a Professional Scrum Master standard: sprint planning, daily stand-up, sprint review, and sprint retrospective.
  • Identify agile maturity gaps within the tribe and raise build a coaching plan with the Head of Delivery and Senior Scrum Master/Coach to address them.
  • Coach and develop the scrum team in agile values, principles, and practices aligned to the Scrum.org framework.
  • Remove impediments and escalate blockers, protecting the team's capacity and focus on sprint commitments.
  • Maintain a healthy, refined, and prioritised product backlog in collaboration with the Technical Product Owner and Product Manager
  • Track and communicate sprint health metrics including velocity, cycle time, burn-down, and sprint goal completion.
  • Maintain Jira sprint board accuracy and ticket discipline, ensuring data quality across all active sprints and project trackers to support reliable delivery reporting.
  • Champion continuous improvement and embed retrospective actions into team ways of working.
  • Lead by example — modelling servant leadership, psychological safety, and a continuous improvement mindset in all team interactions.

Project Delivery – Waterfall & Hybrid

  • Plan, manage, and report on small-to-medium waterfall and hybrid projects running alongside or outside of the sprint cadence.
  • Produce and maintain project artefacts using WL standard templates including project initiation documents, RAID logs, milestone plans, and governance reports.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality gates, escalating risks and issues through the appropriate governance channels.
  • Apply appropriate delivery methodology — agile, waterfall, or hybrid — based on the nature and constraints of each initiative.
  • Report project status into the weekly Delivery Review with accurate RAG ratings, forecast dates, and dependency tracking.
  • Onboard and offboard team members to delivery processes, tooling, and ways of working, ensuring continuity of sprint discipline and project governance.

Release Management

  • Support quality gate enforcement prior to release, ensuring code quality, security scanning, and test sign-off requirements are met in collaboration with engineering leads.
  • Support the Technical Product Owner in management of Requests for Change, coordinating the required documentation and approvals under IT change management policy.
  • Coordinate release communications to internal stakeholders, support teams, and impacted business users along with the Technical Writer.
  • Support post-release reviews and ensure incident learning loops are closed and fed back into the team’s ways of working.
  • Maintain release documentation, deployment runbooks, and rollback procedures in collaboration with engineering leads.

Governance, Reporting & Stakeholder Management

  • Prepare and present tribe-level delivery status to the weekly Delivery Review, providing accurate sprint health, project RAG, and release forecast data.
  • Maintain delivery dashboards (Jira, Confluence or equivalent) and ensure data integrity across sprint boards and project trackers.
  • Act as the primary delivery point of contact for the tribe's engineering team, technical product owner, and senior stakeholders, escalating to the Head of Delivery as appropriate.
  • Identify, manage, and communicate inter-team dependencies across the engineering tribes.
  • Support quarterly planning cycles, capacity planning, and roadmap alignment activities in collaboration with the Head of Delivery and TPO.

Quarterly Planning & Programme Increment

  • Support the tribe’s quarterly planning session, coordinating with the Product Manager, Technical Product Owner, , Engineering Manager, and Business Analyst to prepare a prioritised, capacity-validated delivery plan.
  • Own pre-planning preparation for each quarter, including backlog readiness review, capacity confirmation, risk identification, and cross-tribe dependency mapping ahead of the planning event.
  • Track delivery against quarterly commitments on a sprint-by-sprint basis and flag slippage or re-prioritisation needs to the Head of Delivery promptly.
  • Contribute to the tribe’s quarterly PI summary — preparing inputs for the Head of Delivery to review and distribute to senior stakeholders.
  • Capture cross-tribe dependencies identified during planning in the RAID log and escalate resolution requirements to the Head of Delivery where needed.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Scrum Master to align quarterly planning ceremony design and facilitation standards consistently across all tribes.
