Overview

The Hartford is seeking an Agile Product Owner (APO) to support Gen AI product delivery within the Personal Insurance Innovation Value Stream. This role will focus on building and scaling Gen AI-powered solutions that transform customer experience, underwriting workflows, and operational efficiency. You will set priorities for cross-functional agile teams, represent the voice of the customer, and link execution to business vision – all while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

This position reports to an Agile Product Manager (APM) within the Personal Insurance Innovation Value Stream.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product execution for 1-2 agile teams within the PI Gen AI Product portfolio.
  • Represent the voice of the customer to the agile teams.
  • Create, prioritize, and communicate backlog items; ensure clarity and business value for development team.
  • Manage the product backlog, writing features and breaking them down into stories and prioritizing stories to maximize business value.
  • Aid Agile Product Manager in feature road mapping and breaking down epics into features.
  • Partner with the Scrum Master, agile teams, APMs, Tech Leads, and business stakeholders to ensure solutions deliver the business Validate solutions against product vision and incorporate feedback from demos and stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive insights to drive innovation.
  • Monitor delivery metrics and leverage data-driven insights for continuous improvement.
  • Promote product operating model principles, linking execution to strategic outcomes and driving business readiness.
  • Partner with Scrum Masters, Architects, APMs, and Tech Leads to ensure solutions deliver business value.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, adapting messaging for different audiences.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of insurance industry experience in product-related, digital, or technology roles.
  • Proficiency in agile methodologies and frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, XP).
  • Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban) and lifecycle tools (Rally, JIRA).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to influence and adapt messaging for different audiences.
  • Analytical mindset with experience using data to inform decisions.
  • Experience with Gen AI preferred.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Prior product ownership experience preferred.
  • Certifications such as CSPO, PSPO, or SAFe POPM are a plus.

Work Arrangement: This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Phoenix, AZ, Aurora, IL, New York, NY, and Danbury, CT) will have the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$84,640 - $150,000

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
