Job Description:

As an Agency Auditor, you will serve as the leader of the audit team responsible for conducting audits of escrow accounts, title files, and escrow files, and issuing audit reports, for all agents, with support from other members of the agency team.  Audits will assess agents’ compliance with state and federal laws, as well as Old Republic Title’s requirements established through agency agreements.  Auditor will generally utilize Old Republic Title’s standard audit procedures and forms.  Auditor is responsible to identify existing or potential control weaknesses by exercising sound business judgment, to provide constructive recommendations for improvement, to assemble evidence and documentation from various sources into a well-drafted and accurate audit report, and to report audit findings to State Manager.  A significant component of this position is the auditor’s ability to maintain effective communication and rapport with agents, agency managers, and audit team. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform audit examinations with approved audit program.  This entails review of bank statements, cancelled checks, and reconciliation reports for verification of a three-way reconciliation to a positive balance and for accuracy and effectiveness of the reports. 

  • Review outstanding checks, outstanding deposits, and Trial Balance for agreement to the reconciliation report, and investigate any irregularities.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of agents’ internal controls.

  • Review agents’ title and closing files for compliant underwriting and closing procedures, and document any deficiencies.

  • Review general office procedures for segregation of duties, security controls, attorney oversight and timely reporting.

  • Present findings and recommendations to agents’ management during and at the conclusion of each audit.

  • Prepare exit reports for agents and State Manager.

  • Assist State Manager, as requested, in establishing agency risk ratings. 

  • Using discretion and judgment, conduct follow-up audits on any deficiencies that were found during the initial audit, at the moment they surface.

  • Deliver cancellation letter to deficient agents as required by the State Manager.  Oversee required agency termination procedures, including retrieval of policy inventory.

  • Work with audit team to prepare and maintain an annual audit schedule that meets the compliance, risk-mitigation, and relationship-building needs of the Agency Manager and Company.

  • Develop and maintain effective communication and rapport with agents; serve as a resource to agents as much as possible while maintaining the business judgment required for the role.

  • Participate in a variety of audit procedures, including tests of internal controls, walkthroughs and agent office observation (remotely and in-person). 

  • Collaborate with, and serve as a resource for, Agency Managers to gather necessary information from agents remotely and during in-person office visits. 

  • Accumulate information and data from audit review, company reports, and other resources to draft a comprehensive Audit Report containing findings, observations, and recommended improvements, as needed.

  • Conduct Pre-Audit of new agent applicants as requested by State Manager.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the agents’ compliance with Company Guidelines and the terms of the agents’ agency agreement.

  • Develop clear and effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Keep supervisor informed of activities and items of audit interest.  Perform special projects assigned by State Manager or supervisor.

  • Maintain professional conduct.  Work effectively with co-workers, clients, and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress, timetables and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions; addressing others respectfully by name, actions, works, and deeds.

  • Attend company meetings and industry events as requested.

  • At a minimum, the ability to work from 8 am to 5 pm, MST, Monday through Friday.

  • The ability to work effectively in a remote environment; a desire and ability to maintain connection and relationships with agents and team members that are not co-located with Agency Auditor.

  • Ability to accept supervision.

  • Ability to foster, develop, and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships.  Must be able to get a long with others, i.e., peers, supervisors, outside customers, and vendors.

  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of management, employees, and customers by email, phone, video-call, and in person. 

  • Must be personable, positive, and a professional representative of the Company.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Continually increase knowledge in areas of IT, auditing, accounting, title insurance, and business.  Keep abreast of changes in auditing techniques and related areas.

  • Follow audit procedures and preparing audit work papers in accordance with GAAP and U.S. GAAS and PCAOB documentation requirements.

  • Pursue self-development goals and increase auditing knowledge through seminars, workshops, home study courses, and courses offered through local colleges and universities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects.

  • Ability to lead an audit team.

  • Strong attention to detail; strong organizational skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.

  • Pursue development of knowledge of the title insurance industry and local markets through attending company meetings, and working alongside peers.

The estimated pay range stated represents the typical pay range for this position or similarly employed employees or employees performing substantially similar work. Factors which may be used to determine the actual pay rate may include, but are not limited to, education, training or experience; seniority; merit and work performance; quantity or quality of production; regional differences in compensation; differences in local minimum wages, or ability and effort.

Position's Pay Range:

$120,000.00 - $130,000.00 annually
