SMS is currently hiring for a Part-time elementary aftercare assistant 

Your Role as an Aftercare Elementary Assistant

As our Aftercare Elementary Assistant, you will help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children can relax, connect, and continue learning through meaningful activities at the end of the school day. Working as part of our collaborative team, you will support elementary students through outdoor play, creative projects, homework assistance, and community-building experiences while fostering independence, responsibility, and respect. If you enjoy working with children, value teamwork, and are passionate about creating positive experiences that reflect Montessori principles, we would love to welcome you to our community.

Expectations:

  • Monday-Friday
  • 15-20 hours per week
  • Hours available 2:30 pm-5:30 pm
  • Ability to be on your feet
  • Ability to lift and move
  • Ability to conduct chores apart from child care

Requirements:

  • Ages 18 or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CPR and First Aid Certified or willing to be certified
  • Experience with children (preferred)

PLEASE NOTE: Employees who are made an offer of employment will be required to pass a post-offer pre-employment background process that includes passing a Basic TB and fingerprint test, and completing an online training program. Applicants who do not pass or participate in any of this pre-employment process will have their offer of employment rescinded.

Skills Required

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to become certified
  • Experience working with children
  • Pass post-offer pre-employment background process (Basic TB test, fingerprinting, online training)
  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods and to lift/move items
  • Availability Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM–5:30 PM (15–20 hours per week)
  • Ability to perform chores/cleaning tasks in addition to child care
  • Dependability, strong observation, communication, and organizational skills
