After School Staff uses their passion for child development to provide mentorship, safety, and enrichment to students during our aftercare, clubs, and camp programming. This part-time position is located at St. Mark’s Episcopal School in the West University neighborhood of Houston, Texas.
Pay Range: $15 - $21 per hour
Duties:
- Be able to consistently work from 2:30 pm- 6 pm, Monday-Friday.
- Opportunity for additional hours during the school’s Staycation and Seasonal Camps during holidays off from school, which are half-day and all-day hours.
- Responsible for overseeing 10-20 students along with a co-teacher.
- Be actively engaged! Interact with students, play music, develop challenges, lead games, and ensure strolling supervision.
- Have snacks and activities ready for students prior to their arrival to aftercare.
- Responsible for checking in/out students and staying informed about basic medical information such as allergies.
- Produce an encouraging environment that ensures active student participation in homework and reading time.
- Ensure students are being responsible and respectful to both instructors and fellow classmates.
- Ensure classroom, playground, and shared spaces are clean and reset upon departure from the area.
- Provide social-emotional support to students throughout the day and utilize Conscious Discipline measures for redirection and behavior management.
- Report concerns, incidents, emergencies, and supply requests to Extended Care leadership.
- Follow all school rules and expectations.
- Be responsible for checking in/out all assigned technology.
- Navigate a constantly moving environment with moderate supervision.
- Walking and standing for long periods.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 18+ years old
- Experience with children
- At least one year of work, volunteer, or organization participation experience
- Education background preferred
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Works in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
Skills Required
- Must be 18+ years old
- Experience working with children
