Afterschool Site Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Afterschool Site Coordinator at the Penobscot Bay YMCA provides leadership for an assigned afterschool program, creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. This position oversees daily program operations, supports staff, builds positive relationships with families, and ensures compliance with YMCA policies and state licensing requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Lead the daily operation of an assigned YMCA Afterschool Program site.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and support afterschool staff and volunteers.
  • Plan and implement engaging curriculum that includes STEM, art, recreation, and enrichment activities.
  • Foster positive relationships and maintain effective communication with children, families, school personnel, and YMCA staff.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, enrollment information, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, DHHS licensing requirements, child abuse prevention standards, and all health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming program environment.
  • Assist with program budgeting, inventory, and care of facilities and equipment.
  • Participate in required staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; one or more years of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in an afterschool, school-age, or childcare setting preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications (or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate programs, solve problems, exercise sound judgment, and maintain a safe, nurturing environment for children.

  • Ability to perform all duties required of the Afterschool Coordinator position.
  • Ability to plan, lead, and actively participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching, and standing throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions during all seasons.
  • Ability to see, hear, and respond appropriately to the needs of children in a dynamic program environment.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One or more years of college
  • Previous experience working with children in afterschool, school-age, or childcare settings
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
