Program Summary:

SHIM’s After School Program is designed to grow social emotional and academic skills among elementary-aged students through homework support and comprehension, fostering positive relationships and building a sense of belonging in a safe, and respectful multicultural space. The After School program runs during the academic year from September 28th to May 20th. The program operates Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 6:15 pm. 1st through 5th grade students receive snack and assistance with homework from 3:30 to 5:00 pm and participate in enrichment activities from 5:00 to 6:15 pm. 

Job Summary:

The After School Aide is a seasonal part-time position available for the duration of the After School program (September through May). The After School Aide helps the After School Teacher to strengthen academic, physical, and social skills by providing academic support, enriching programming, and fostering relationships. The After School Aide works with the Teacher to support the daily functions of the classroom and provide a safe and educational environment for all students. After School staff are expected to be on site Monday through Thursday from 3:15 to 6:45pm. 

This is a seasonal program starting 9/28 but would be ready to onboard in early September for training and orientation (desired start date would be 9/16).

Requirements

  

Essential Functions:

· Support students with daily homework help for assigned class

· Support the After School Teacher in implementing the daily enrichment and centers activities.

· Maintain a neat and organized learning environment 

· Participate in the arrival and dismissal procedures at the beginning and end of after school day

· Supervise activities to ensure safety at all times and follow appropriate safety plans 

· Work cooperatively with Manager, Teachers, other Aides and volunteers

· Establish positive and trusted relationships with students and their families 

· Participate in staff meetings and trainings

· Maintain all supplies, equipment and materials; inform the After School Manager when supplies are needed

· Maintain a clean environment and partake in shared cleaning and set up responsibilities

· Other duties as assigned 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive, calm attitude

· Demonstrated ability working with children, youth, or community development

· Ability positively guide and direct students through positive role modeling

· Sensitivity to work with a multi-cultural community

· Strong interpersonal, organizational, and verbal communication skills

· Must possess initiative, creativity and problem-solving skills

· Ability to work as a team member and to be highly flexible 

· Ability and willingness to work afternoon and evening hours and occasional Friday hours

· Familiarity with academic content for elementary aged students preferred


Education and Experience:

· Relevant experience or education within youth development, education, social emotional support, and program management will be considered 

Supervisory Responsibility:

None


Physical Requirements: 

· Ability to reasonably engage in play with students

· Act 33/34, NSOR, and FBI clearances

· CPR & first-aid certified

· Completed Mandated Reporter Training and agreement to comply as a Mandated Reporter
