About the role

Navitas is looking for an agile and performance-driven Africa Officer to support one of its esteemed university partners, the University of Portsmouth's London campus.


This role will support the University’s international profile across Africa by supporting recruitment activities, attending key exhibitions, supporting educational agents, and strengthening partnerships with international stakeholders. As part of the University of Portsmouth Global team, this role will play a key role in promoting the University of Portsmouth's London campus and attracting high-quality international students.


Working closely with the Regional Head (Africa) to engage stakeholders throughout the student journey, ensuring a seamless and impactful recruitment experience.


Responsibilities:

Recruitment

  • Plan and deliver high-impact recruitment activities, including exhibitions and institutional visits, in collaboration with academic teams.
  • Counsel prospective students across schools, colleges, universities, and agent networks, ensuring strong follow-through and conversion.
  • Manage regional budgets with a focus on maximizing ROI.
  • Partner with Global Admissions to ensure efficient processing and exceptional applicant experience.
  • Deliver and support targeted conversion activity across African markets, working with agents, overseas offices, academic teams and admissions colleagues to progress enquiries and applications through to enrolment, ensuring a high quality applicant experience and contributing to agreed recruitment targets.

Networking

  • Build and strengthen relationships with agents and partner institutions.
  • Collaborate with faculties and Admissions Tutors to ensure seamless communication with applicants and agents.
  • Support student experience through induction, events, and engagement initiatives.
  • Provide responsive support to agents, including urgent queries, to uphold service excellence.

Marketing

  • Contribute to regional marketing strategies alongside senior stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and report on recruitment activities and campaign effectiveness.
  • Coordinate targeted outreach initiatives with local institutions.
  • Collaborate with Global Marketing and Alumni teams to enhance webinars, events, and conversion efforts.

 Continuous Improvement

  • Champion a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on service excellence and professional

Key Requirements

  • Experience working in diverse cultural environments, with strong cross-cultural awareness.
  • Background in education, ideally within international student recruitment.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce, SITS) and student lifecycle management.
  • Understanding of international higher education markets, with experience in marketing, sales, or student engagement (overseas exposure preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent presentation and influencing abilities with a customer-focused approach.
  • Target-driven, self-motivated, and confident working independently.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail; proficient in MS Office, digital tools, and decision-making (additional language skills are a plus).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
  • Marketing qualification (e.g., CIM) is an advantage.

  • Strong commercial awareness and resilience.
