In order to support our Aerodynamics department, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a
Aerodynamic Engineer Methods & Tools - Dataset Team (d/f/m)
Aerodynamics is responsible for the aerodynamic design and characterisation for all military aircraft programs along their product life cycle. We use numerical simulations, wind tunnel testing and flight test to understand the aerodynamic behaviour and to create and deliver aircraft representative aerodynamic data and models for stability & control, performance, loads and aeroelastics as well as establishing envelopes for safe separation of external stores and for plume ingestion. Besides, we give support to the production in terms of assessing the aerodynamics impact on non-conformities, repairs plus in-service incidents.

Your tasks and responsibilities
You will drive the development, continuous improvement and industrialization of inhouse-tools and software to push the mathematical modelling of the aerodynamic flight characteristics of combat aircraft to the next level.
As successful candidate you will

Develop, implement and apply innovative features and techniques in aerodynamic in-house tools and software in an industrial context

Adapt the code basis to modern software standards

Ensure validation and verification of the software for real-life aircraft applications

Develop machine learning methodologies applied to aerodynamic analysis and dataset generation
-
Continuously improve the aerodynamic software tool chains by developing S/W scripts based on prescribed requirements

Connect with the external research community in the field of aerodynamic method development

Model aerodynamic characteristics of combat aircraft for stability & control, loads and performance datasets
Desired skills and qualifications
-
PhD or master degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent

Proficient knowledge in aerodynamics and flight mechanics with an affinity to Fighter Aircraft

Excellent programming skills in Python and Fortran as well as familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems and version control

Convincing experience in object-oriented code development in bigger software environment

Experience in Machine learning methodologies

Good analytical capabilities, assertive and stress resilient

Ability to communicate transparently to internal and external stakeholders

Autonomous, independent, target-oriented and flexible way of working

Ability to prioritize technical solutions in order to balance economic constraints

Fluent in English, good German skills are advantageous
