About You
The Advisor, Research Security and Due Diligence supports RMIT’s Global Resilience Office (GRO) to manage risks associated with international research, education and industry engagement. Working under the guidance of the Manager, Research Security, the role contributes to due diligence, risk assessments, compliance and record-keeping processes, and the development of guidance and educational resources that support secure and responsible international collaboration. You will research and analyse information from a range of sources, prepare written assessments and briefing materials, maintain accurate records and systems, respond to routine enquiries, and contribute to the continuous improvement of research security processes and tools.

This is an opportunity to build expertise in a growing and strategically important area while working with stakeholders across RMIT to support responsible international engagement and research partnerships. We recognise that relevant experience can be gained through professional, academic and community settings, and encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every requirement.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

  • A degree in international relations, security studies, law, political science, or a closely related field - reflecting a foundational understanding of the international and regulatory environment in which academic security risks arise.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis tasks - gathering, interpreting, and summarising complex information in clear written documents, reports, or briefing notes for a range of audiences.

  • Genuine interest in research security, foreign interference, geopolitics or national security, with a commitment to developing practical expertise in this domain under supervision.

  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate and auditable documentation, and meet deadlines reliably.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear guidance documents and communicate compliance requirements in plain language.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgement when handling sensitive or confidential information, and to work collaboratively across organisational boundaries.

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
