The Advisor, Enterprise Risk Management (Market Risk) works with a high volume of periodical report requirements to the ALT (Asset Liability Team) and other internal units: Risk Management, Treasury and Finance. In charge of leading and managing internal consulting projects, risk assessments and ad hoc projects requested from executive management. This position will be working hybrid and is based in Oriental Center building, San Juan, PR.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing risk management oversight of key market risk activities and limit monitoring.
  • Direct involvement in annual audits: Internal Audit and FDIC "Safety and Soundness Examination", and Model Validations.
  • Facilitate the identification of credit, liquidity, and market risks, utilizing appropriate assessment tools to identify risk, compile risk registers and develop effective risk response strategies (mitigation plans).
  • Establish and continuously monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRI's) reports.
  • Partner with executive team members, enterprise level management, key tactical owners and strategic stakeholders involved in cross-functional projects to manage progression through project completion and sustainability.
  • Review and validate losses or significant events and advise business owners of action steps required to prevent future recurrence.
  • Perform risk assessments, serve as consultant for organizational projects and engage internally across various risk disciplines and lines of business to identify potential issues, close gaps, and achieve potential process efficiencies.
  • Participate in projects designed to mitigate risks including developing action plans to solve issues or close gaps.
  • Track, coordinate, and resolve issues identified in all related control, compliance, or risk work.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field required. Finance major preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience in internal control, risk management, treasury or data analysis required. regulatory capital requirements for a financial institution. Financial services / banking industry experience, preferred.
  • Minimum education and experience required can be substituted with the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish with a demonstrated ability to write communications clearly, concisely, and effectively required.
  • Computer systems proficiency (MS Office) required. Advanced knowledge of data base and analytical tools (Excel) highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of bank systems: BIC (Business Intelligence Center) & Metavante, among others preferred.
  • Knowledge of market and liquidity risk management processes and measurement techniques as well as financial markets and products (notes-bonds, MBS, derivatives) and quantitative/modeling skills to analyze the associated risks preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including ability to read, analyze and interpret financial information. Comprehend technical procedures, government laws & regulations and reports.
