Position SummaryAdvanced Software Engineer
This Advanced Software Engineer position is part of the lottery division engineer team at Scientific Games. Your work on this team will help enable the funding of good causes like education, health care, senior citizens, roads, bridges, state parks and trails as well as the environment.
Joining this team, you will be among peers in professional engineering that report up in small groups to a Software Development Manager. You will find these teams are made up of career-minded professionals that have chosen to be in the lottery industry.
As an Advanced Software Engineer, you will need to be able to work both independently and as part of a team that works on complex systems with engineering challenges. You will be expected to have a strong technical foundation, extensive experience, and a proven ability to lead and mentor others, while also being proficient in the specific areas related to the code structure of the transaction engine.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Design, Code and debug source code and scripts
Given requirements, document, suggest and design solutions
Participate in the requirements gathering phase of development projects
Participate in code reviews as needed
Occasionally participate in the support of production lottery systems when issues arise as an engineering expert
Additional, stringent State specific background checks on top of SG base checks
The position can have up to travel 10% or less

Required:
BS in Computer Science (or acceptable equivalent)
Strong educational background
10+ years’ programming experience, preferably on a large-scale transaction processing system
Procedural application development in C on Linux
Low-level programming and debugging with C/C++
Extensive experience and broad skillset with a propensity for learning
Strong understanding of software design patterns and architecture
Shared memory and memory mapping
Strong usage of data structures and binary serialization of data structures
Proc SQL
Shell scripting (BASH) and basic Unix tools (awk, sed, tail, head, grep, etc)
Experience with version control systems
Multi-threaded development
