Northrop Grumman Strategic Deterrent Systems Division is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer. This position will be in Roy, UT, and supporting the Advanced Programs organization.
What You’ll Get To Do:
- Decompose and allocate system requirements into detailed specifications, maintaining end-to-end traceability throughout the lifecycle.
- Develop functional architectures, use cases, and concepts of operations for cruise-missile subsystems, including model-based systems engineering artifacts (CAMEO, DOORS).
- Lead hardware-in-the-loop, developmental flight, and operational test integration, overseeing verification and validation of software and hardware components.
- Create and manage technical-maturation roadmaps and integration plans for the Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) phase.
- Identify, analyze, and mitigate program risks, producing risk-management plans and supporting decision-making.
- Facilitate cross-functional working groups and model-capability reviews, ensuring adherence to standards and processes.
- Produce key systems-engineering deliverables such as design reviews, trade studies, interface control documents, and requirements baselines.
- Contribute to proposal development, RFP/RFS responses, and Bases of Estimate for TMRR efforts.
- Act as a Systems Engineering liaison with internal teams, external partners, and customers, providing expertise and guidance.
Basic Qualifications:
Senior Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of related experience, 6 years with Masters, 4 years with PhD
Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
6+ years of experience assessing and managing program risks in a defense-acquisition environment.
6+ years of experience with DOORS and CAMEO and recent MBSE work including architecture development, functional decomposition, requirements development and allocation, and interface definition.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance.
CompTIA Security+ certification.
Experience with DoD weapon-system conceptual and preliminary design, particularly for test and integration.
Flight-test planning experience and development of test procedures for cruise-missile systems.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and Atlassian toolset (Jira, Confluence) for software development and integration.
Recent requirements development and decomposition experience
Specifically deriving requirements for supplier specifications
Flight systems architecture development experience – In either the missile or unmanned aircraft domain

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
