Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements training activities directed at both employee competencies and technical skills. Delivers training and/or visits work locations to confirm effectiveness of technical training programs.
  • Collaborates with other functions (e.g., Engineering, Operations, Maintenance) to ensure that course materials reflect current specifications and to obtain information on new processes and equipment.
  • Leads projects and programs related to but not limited to technical training purposes.
  • Oversees the quality of delivered training sessions by external vendors, manages vendor relationships, researches potential new vendors and administers the contract process.
  • Plans training courses and sessions and ensures proper budgeting is available for the course materials.
  • Coordinates and tracks relevant certifications, re-certifications, and development programs.
  • Manages own process improvements and training programs for department and works more independently.
  • Prepares and review budget for the technical training function.
  • Conducts training needs assessment to ensure the gap truly is a training issue and not a management issue.
  • Provides support and guidance to lower-level colleagues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience (Process/Control Engineering or Maintenance)
  • A combination of degree and experience can be considered.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive technical knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge and familiarity with technical training theories and practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills. Ability to communicate with internal and external customers on issues of moderate to considerable importance, up to and including senior management.
  • Strong ability to foster and maintain relationships with an ability to work as part of a cross functional team.
  • Excellent customer service skills. Ability to promote and support a service-oriented environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills. Ability to defend position strongly while keenly aware of the need to maximize benefits for all sides.
  • Good project management skills, including identifying and scheduling process steps, determining resources and staff required to successfully complete assigned projects or project steps and reporting on project milestones.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply the planning and checking process to own work output and to assist others with identifying gaps in work results.
  • Strong continuous improvement mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to train or transfer knowledge to less experienced professionals.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Process/Control Engineering or Maintenance
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Extensive technical knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of technical training theories and practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written, verbal, communication, presentation, negotiation, relationship-building, and project management skills
  • Ability to train or transfer knowledge to less experienced professionals
