The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) is responsible for managing and executing capital equipment and manufacturing process projects supporting new product introductions (NPI), cost out initiatives and plant improvements. The AME will also be a key liaison between the program and the plant operations teams; ensuring that plant priorities and objectives are clearly understood and considered for the area under their ownership.Position​​Advanced Manufacturing Engineer​LocationUSA, Louisville, KY

How You'll Create Possibilities
  • Manage large capital equipment procurement projects including specification development utilizing GE standards, supplier selection, early supplier engagement, technical reviews, quality laboratory layout development, installation, and qualification of equipment.  Ensure all tooling and equipment is reliable and robust and designed to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Reliability. Projects will be mainly focused on quality laboratory and audit laboratory equipment, including metrology, with the potential for maintenance and tool crib equipment and capital. 

  • Own the program metrics as applicable to your assigned projects: manufacturing labor plan (VLOH), equipment and tooling budgets and quality of in-house testing.  Work with the program team to perform trade-off analysis on competing metrics if necessary and drive decisions based on overall business impact. 

  • Utilize cross-functional participation to ensure that the equipment and processes are compatible with and address the needs of the product line.  

  • Develop layouts to identify utility requirements, installation requirements, space allocations, etc. 

  • Work with EHS and the Advanced Industrial Engineer to ensure that equipment / tooling / processes are implemented with the health and safety of the operators in mind.  

  • Work with the product design team, advanced quality engineering team and operations teams to ensure all equipment meets the needs of the NPI, production quality requirements, and long-term maintenance and tool crib capabilities and capacities 

  • Drive innovation into the test systems design to ensure lowest cost and highest quality processes. 

  • Research and validate the required equipment needed to support a maintenance team and functional tool crib 

  • Coach and train hourly operators, maintenance and technicians in equipment operation, troubleshooting and maintenance. 

What You'll Bring to Our Team

Requirements: 

  • BS degree in Engineering or similar field, or equivalent technical/trade experience 

  • 3+ years’ experience managing capital equipment procurement projects, including specification development, equipment supplier selection, technical reviews, installation and qualification of equipment 

  • 3+ years hands on experience in manufacturing engineering and/or quality engineering 

  • Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization (both salaried and shop floor operators / skilled trades team members) 

  • Good communication skills – will be expected to provide program report outs to cross-functional team 

  • Ability to make decisions and willingness to take ownership of complex projects 

  • Role will be in Louisville with potential for domestic travel during program launch periods. 

  • GD&T knowledge and application expertise 

  

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Experience implementing quality/testing equipment 

  • Prior NPI program experience 

  • Proficient in MS Office, MS Scheduler (or equivalent) and AutoCAD 

Working Conditions: 

  • This position is primarily based in Louisville, KY, but requires travel to other locations as needed. The primary work schedule is the 1st shift; however, occasional support during weekends, 2nd, and 3rd shifts may be necessary. 

  • Working conditions are normal for a high-volume manufacturing environment. 

  • Work may involve lifting materials and products up to 30 pounds and working in and around heavy equipment. 

  • Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hard hats. 

  • These roles require frequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment.

Skills Required
