About Harbinger
Harbinger is an American commercial electric vehicle (EV) company on a mission to transform an industry starving for innovation. Harbinger’s best-in-class team of EV, battery, and drivetrain experts have pooled their deep experience to bring a first-of-its-kind EV platform to support the growing demand for medium-duty EVs and Hybrids. Harbinger: Familiar Form, Revolutionary Foundation.
We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Manufacturing Engineer, HV Test to lead the development, deployment, and scaling of High Voltage (HV) test systems for our proprietary battery packs. In this role, you will own the end-to-end testing strategy for our battery production lines, ensuring that every pack leaving our facility is safe, reliable, and performs to our rigorous standards.
You will bridge the gap between product design and volume manufacturing, championing Design for Test (DFT) principles and building automated, scalable test architectures (including HiPot, End-of-Line, and functional cycling) for a high-voltage production environment.
What You Will DoSystem Design & Deployment: Design, specify, and commission high-voltage test equipment for battery module and pack manufacturing, including End-of-Line (EOL) testers, HiPot/isolation stations, and charge/discharge cyclers.
Test Automation: Develop robust test scripts and automation architecture to integrate HV test equipment with our Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for seamless data collection and traceability.
Design for Test (DFT): Collaborate closely with the Battery Hardware and Firmware engineering teams during the product design phase to ensure new battery architectures are optimized for manufacturability and scalable testing.
Safety Leadership: Establish and enforce rigorous HV safety protocols (NFPA 70E compliance) for the manufacturing floor, including the design of physical safety interlocks, LOTO procedures, and PPE standards for test cells.
Root Cause Analysis: Serve as the first line of escalation for complex test failures on the manufacturing line. Lead cross-functional teardowns and root-cause analyses on non-conforming battery packs.
Process Scaling: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce test cycle times, increase equipment overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and transition processes from low-volume prototype builds to high-volume production.
Vendor Management: Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with external test equipment integrators and vendors.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience: 4+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years specifically dedicated to High Voltage (HV) battery testing (400V–800V+ systems).
Technical Chops: Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting industrial test hardware (e.g., Chroma, National Instruments, Keysight, Bitrode, or similar cyclers/DAQs).
Software/Programming: Proficiency in developing test automation scripts using Python, LabVIEW, C++, or similar languages.
Safety Expertise: Deep understanding of high-voltage electrical safety standards and risk mitigation in a production environment.
Communication: Excellent ability to distill complex electrical data into actionable insights for cross-functional teams.
Direct experience scaling a new EV battery production line from R&D into volume manufacturing.
Deep knowledge of Battery Management Systems (BMS), CAN bus communication (Vector CANalyzer/PCAN), and cell balancing logic.
Familiarity with SQL or similar database querying for analyzing historical manufacturing test data.
Experience integrating test stations with an MES (e.g., Ignition, Plex, or custom-built solutions).
