As a Sr. Payroll Administrator, you will serve as a key member of the payroll team responsible for coordinating, auditing, validating, and processing payroll data to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery. This role supports the processing of complex hourly and salaried payrolls, maintains compliance with federal, state, provincial, and company policies, and prepares payroll-related reports and regulatory documentation. The Sr. Payroll Administrator researches and resolves payroll, tax, benefits, and timekeeping issues, performs payroll reconciliations, and identifies opportunities for process improvement in a dynamic and highly manual payroll environment. In addition, this role serves as a subject matter expert for payroll processes, provides guidance and support to team members, and assists with complex payroll issues, escalations, audits, and special projects.

What you’ll do:
- Calculate hours, compute and deduct statutory and company required withholdings (i.e. employment insurance, income tax, benefit premiums, pension contributions and other payroll deductions) using a computerized payroll system, Dayforce. Also, calculate special adjustments that include bonus, advances, garnishment orders, retro pay, etc.
- Execute payroll processes in a highly manual environment, requiring extensive data validation, spreadsheet analysis, reconciliations, manual imports, exception management, and cross-system balancing to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
- Perform payroll audits and reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies related to earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, and timekeeping data.
- Balance payroll to appropriate general ledger accounts.
- Ensure payroll activities comply with federal, state, provincial, and company policies while maintaining accurate payroll records and supporting audit requests.
- Compiles, prepares, and distributes statistical reports, statements and summaries for management and government agencies.
- Assists with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparations, audits, and corrections.
- Maintains data integrity of the payroll system, ensuring timely updates for hires, terms, pay changes, and tax setup.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, time, tax setup, or policies in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with HR, Benefits, HR Technology Services, Finance, and other internal partners to resolve issues and ensure accurate payroll results.
- Support special projects, process improvements, and team initiatives as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED, or comparable education and/or work experience required.
- 5+ years of hands-on payroll experience in a computerized payroll and HRIS environment
- Working knowledge of basic federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Experience supporting complex multi-state payroll environments, including payroll tax validation, tax setup review, reconciliation activities, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage a high-volume workload accurately.
Preferred Characteristics:
- Completion of bachelor's degree or other courses in accounting, bookkeeping or payroll administration; or equivalent
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FCP)
- Previous experience with Dayforce payroll solutions
- Experience processing Canadian payroll
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables)
