Some key job duties are as follow:
• Communicate with practicing attorneys, personnel of government agencies, and with the general public. The employee does not give legal advice; however, incoming telephone calls must be screened to determine the issue to be resolved and routed to the appropriate individual.
• The employee routinely prepares pleadings, email correspondence, subpoenas, etc. with urgent and short deadlines.
• The employee will assist the DMV attorneys in preparation for trial including the distribution of discovery and the preparation of trial exhibits.
• The employee will make travel arrangements for the attorney as directed; order supplies as may be needed to maintain office productivity; and will handle miscellaneous task as may be assigned.
Section Information: The primary focus of this position is to support the DMV section's attorneys in their litigation work on behalf of the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles and the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in administrative proceedings, the North Carolina trial and appellate courts, and in Federal courts. The DMV Section supports and provides legal advice to the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles in addition to representing the State in appellate litigation.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Management Preferences:

  • Skilled in organizing workflow and coordinating activities.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and understanding of various legal documents, processes and procedures.
  • Notary Public certification.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
