ADAS System Safety Engineer
Description
Hybrid:
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected toreport to Warren Technical Center three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role:
The successful candidate will lead development and application of the GM System Safety Process to Active Safety. This work directly supports overall System Safety Case development for these technologies that are critical in achieving GM's path to Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion. In this role you will utilize systems level thinking and partner across the engineering organization to deploy System Safety approaches across our diverse technology set.
We are looking for a highly energetic and creative thinker who can lead this System Safety work and grow our approach for future innovations in the Active Safety spaces.
What You'll Do:
- Drive systems safety analysis, hazard identification, and risk mitigation efforts using both qualitative and quantitative methods
- Decompose the top-level system functions, and behaviors into a set of safety requirements that detail expected end-to-end system behavior to implement a holistic safety strategy
- Develop and maintain clear development pipelines, workflows, and dashboards for these functions, partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders to develop & deploy a safety strategy that balances feature availability & performance
- Support definition of the validation & verification plan for safety requirements that evaluates the end-to-end implementation of the function
- Collaborate with teams to facilitate on-time delivery of safety critical system content
- Coach cross-functional teams on safety critical system and process-specific knowledge, consulting Senior System Safety engineers as needed.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):
- Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or another Engineering degree
- A minimum 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience in systems or systems safety analysis, systems engineering, robustness evaluation, development or other related fields
- Ability to understand complex technical systems
- Strong technical leadership skills and an ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
- Basic project management skills
- Comfortable with ambiguity and has a passion to craft the future
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment with colleagues local and at remote sites
- DFSS Black Belt certification
- Ability to travel as needed (5-10% max)
