Job Summary
The Systems Modeling and Simulation Engineer within Advanced Design & Development (AD&D) is responsible for developing high-fidelity simulation models and environments that support aircraft system integration, flight simulator development, and certification activities for future Part 23 aircraft. This role will focus on creating and validating models for avionics, flight controls, propulsion, mechanical, electrical, and other aircraft systems. These models will be used in early design evaluation and integration testing in an System Integration Lab / Iron Bird environment, and also for simulator-based verification. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure models accurately represent real-world performance and meet FAA certification requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
· Analyze experimental data to identify sources of errors, validate results, and improve models of systems and equipment.
· Collaborate with avionics, flight controls, propulsion, mechanical, electrical, software, and certification teams to define modeling requirements and ensure compliance with Part 23 standards.
· Collaboratively develop and maintain system and equipment-level models that simulate the behavior and performance of nominal, off-nominal, and malfunctioning/failure operating conditions.
· Coordinate closely with subject matter experts from flight controls, avionics, electrical, mechanical, and powerplant systems.
· Design and implement simulation environments for flight simulators and integration test labs.
· Develop automated workflows for model execution, data analysis, and reporting.
· Develop efficient methods to feed flight test data back into simulation models of various fidelity and complexity.
· Document modeling assumptions, validation results, and integration procedures for internal and regulatory use.
· Support integration testing and troubleshooting of complex aircraft systems in simulated and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
· Travel up to 15% may be required.
· Validate models against lab test and flight test data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
