Job Description:
Providing for loved ones, planning rewarding retirements, saving enough for whatever lies ahead – our policyholders count on us to be there when it matters most. It's a big ask, but it's one that we have the power to deliver when we work together. We collaborate and innovate – pushing one another to transform not just Pacific Life, but the entire industry for the better. Why? Because it's the right thing to do. Pacific Life is more than a job, it's a career with purpose. It's a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future – including your own.
We're actively seeking a talented Director – PRT Pricing to join our Pension Risk Transfer Pricing team. This role is on-site 4 days per week and work from home 1 day per week in Newport Beach, CA, Omaha, NE, or Charlotte, NC.
As a Director – PRT Pricing you'll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by playing a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by leading pricing across the end-to-end Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) lifecycle. This is a broad-scope role: rather than owning a single specialty, you will lead transaction pricing and deal execution while flexing across the team's focus areas – assumptions and frameworks, mortality and experience, ALM and reinvestment, and pricing operations – as business needs and capacity require. You will work closely and collaboratively with numerous areas within the Institutional Division and across the enterprise, including Sales, Product, Risk, Enterprise Modeling, Investments, Enterprise ALM, and Valuation.
You will sit on a team of 15 within the Institutional Division. Your colleagues will include actuaries and pricing analysts with varied backgrounds in PRT, ALM, reinsurance, mortality setting, and capital management. The PRT Pricing team works in a fast-paced and constantly evolving marketspace. We value flexibility, agility, and teamwork and complete work in a matrix design to allow for the most efficient resource management.
Candidates who meet most but not all requirements are encouraged to apply. Actual job title and offer will be based on experience and skillset.
Candidates who bring deep PRT market expertise, a strong technical foundation, and the ability to lead teams while driving outcomes through ambiguity will be well positioned to make a meaningful impact in this role.
How you'll help move us forward:
- Lead PRT Pricing Deal Strategy: Oversee transaction pricing, assumption setting, and bid execution for PRT deals across retiree, deferred, and buy-in structures. Ensure pricing aligns with enterprise risk appetite and profitability goals.
- Own Cases End to End: Lead and own the full pricing process within the matrix model, operating in both execution and senior reviewer capacities to ensure quality, consistency, and accountability, carrying a portfolio of transactions alongside project work and flexing to where capacity and complexity demand.
- Breadth Across Pricing Disciplines: Build and apply working depth across the team's focus areas – pricing frameworks (Statutory and Economic) and assumptions, mortality and experience analysis, ALM and reinvestment strategy, and pricing operations – own outcomes across these areas as priorities shift, bringing the connections between them into pricing decisions
- Assumptions & Methodology: Develop and apply methodology for complex, ambiguous pricing problems, including newly proposed structures or provisions not previously priced. Own assumption updates end to end, and justify methodology decisions, simplifications, and model limitations to technical and executive audiences.
- Stakeholder Management: Anticipate stakeholder hurdles and secure buy-in ahead of them. Drive decision-making by facilitating alignment across Sales, Capital, Reinsurance, Investments, Valuation, and Risk
- Team Development: Hire, assess, and develop actuaries, actuarial students, and pricing analysts. Clearly define roles and responsibilities, delegate to the appropriate level, and ensure cross-training and continuity as responsibilities shift.
- Governance & Documentation: Own the pricing control environment — ensure compliance in standards, documentation, and regulatory support.
- Innovation & Thought Leadership: Champion new ideas and lead initiatives from ideation to execution, including automation and AI-enabled improvements. Influence working norms and process improvements across the PRT team.
The experience you bring:
- FSA or EA with 6+ years of related experience in actuarial pricing and product development.
- Direct experience with Pension Risk Transfer or annuity products.
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.
- Strong management, team-building, and communication skills.
- Excellent project management and business partnering abilities.
- Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end initiatives including resourcing decisions and accountability for delivery risk
- Track record of designing and implementing solutions where no established process existed, and driving them to adoption.
- Ability to understand the big picture and mobilize initiatives in ambiguous situations.
- Comfort moving between technical disciplines and picking up unfamiliar subject matter quickly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Prophet.
What makes you stand out:
- FSA or EA with 10+ years of actuarial experience.
- Prior experience with Pension Risk Transfer transaction pricing, including deferred, cash balance, lump sum, and buy-in structures.
- Experience leading mortality experience analysis (PRT or other business lines), including the development and application of analytical tools, methodologies, and executive-ready insights that translate data into a clear business narrative.
- Thought leader with a mindset focused on continuous improvement, sustainability, and scalability.
- Ability to multitask with shifting priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining calm composure and flexibility in handling urgent requests.
- Self-starter with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- VBA coding experience and proficiency in related programming languages.
- Experience with actuarial modeling and statistical analysis programs, particularly Prophet, the Prophet Asset Liability Strategy Library, Alteryx, and R.
Salary Ranges per Location:
- Newport Beach, CA: $203,760 - $249,040
- Omaha, NE: $175,950 - $215,050
- Charlotte, NC: $185,220 - $226,380
