Lloyd’s Europe is a company which has played an important part of Lloyd’s European Market Access strategy for both the insurance and reinsurance business in the EU/EEA since 2019.  It allows Lloyd’s to remain actively engaged with the market and ensure that Lloyd’s Europe is an effective solution for the market to carry on business without interruption after the UK left the EU.  

 

Lloyd’s Europe Finance is at the heart of the insurance business, leading the financial & capital management, analysis and reporting to securely fulfil all statutory requirements and add commercial insight & value. 

Role Purpose

The role is a general actuarial associate role within the team and is expected to involve work across the main focus of the team – reserving, reporting and capital modelling. The role will cover all actuarial work required to support this significant insurance company. 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Build data processes, and review and validate data used in actuarial modelling and reporting 

  • Undertake the actuarial aspects of the Solvency II quarterly and annual reporting, Belgian GAAP reporting and other local reporting as required 

  • Undertake and develop claims reserving processes across the Lloyd’s Europe book of business, on best estimate and Belgian GAAP bases or as required 

  • Support the Actuarial Manager in the determining of assumptions and the building of reserving processes 

  • Undertake and develop processes to calculate the capital requirements under Solvency II Standard Formula 

  • Undertake premium reserving across the Lloyd’s Europe book of business as required 

  • Undertake capital projections to support the work of Business planning and ORSA 

  • Undertake work to support analysis of surplus, premiums earning patterns and other actuarial tasks 

  • Undertake actuarial work for the local Lloyd’s branches in Europe 

  • Undertake ad-hoc actuarial work to support projects as required

  • Suggests solutions to any practical barriers to delivery of analysis based on experience of other work areas.

  • Deliver high quality output based on independent definition of tasks that is checked against internal and external information.

  • Proactively propose appropriate deadlines for delivery.

  • Manage project work to ensure coordinated delivery of output.

  • Communicate any issues in good time.

  • Proactively shares own knowledge with others in the team and identifies gaps in own knowledge.

  • Provide communication of complex areas in a way that is targeted and appropriate to the audience.

  • Establish strong working relationships and contributes positively to the atmosphere of the team.

Independent Challenge:

Knowledge 

  • Knowledge of the actuarial techniques involved in non-life insurance 

  • Knowledge of various IT tools including Excel, Access, Word and databases.   

  • ResQ & R Studio experience a distinct advantage. 

Experience  

  • Experience in non-life insurance work, preferably across a range of work areas (in particular reserving, capital modelling). 

  • Experience in delivering complex work output, including supervising work, and communicating this to different audiences.
