JOB SUMMARY
*** This is a hybrid position, and will require you to work onsite 3 days a week at either our Camphill, PA, Pittsburgh, PA or Buffalo, NY locations.
This job is an entry-level actuarial position. Participates in Highmark’s Actuarial Executive Development Program and is expected to make continued progress towards actuarial credential and apply actuarial techniques and statistical analysis to at least one of several functions, which may include insurance premium and pricing development, claim trend analysis, experience studies, medical economics, profitability analysis, wellness studies, predictive modeling, provider efficiency, provider contracting analysis and claim reserving.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop queries to obtain data that is appropriate to the purpose with minimal assistance and oversight.
- Create studies, analyses, and presentation materials needed to appropriately inform decision makers. Seek input and assistance as required to ensure actuarial work, analyses, and materials are appropriate.
- Proactively ensure the internal and external consistency of all work. This includes (and is not limited to): ensuring input data is correct and appropriately entered, verifying that numbers add up, confirming formulas are correct, and demonstrating consistency with control totals.
- Demonstrate eagerness and curiosity with a strong desire to learn new concepts. Seek continual feedback from manager and others in order to advance personal development and career goals.
- Understand the environment, goals, and objectives of the incumbent's own position, their team, and the internal customers with whom the incumbent regularly works. Bring original ideas to existing business problems.
- Manage own time and resources across projects, focusing on quality, time, scope, usefulness, and appropriateness of work. Carry out recurring projects with minimal assistance and oversight. Keep manager informed.
- Interact with stakeholders in a manner that fosters cooperation and teamwork while conveying engagement and competence. Provide responsive service and understand customer needs.
- Develop and maintain positive relationship with others. Listen, take direction, accept criticism and feedback and adjust behavior accordingly to improve performance. Perform assigned tasks and alert manager when there's down time. Proactively take on additional work as needed by the team.
