We are looking for a highly motivated Test Engineer with acoustic/audio testing experience to help introduce new Bose products to manufacturing, working in collaboration with our product development teams and our contract manufacturers (CMs).
About Us:
The Acoustic Test Group (ATG) at Bose is responsible for developing and deploying test plans, software, and hardware to test and tune the acoustic performance of Bose products. We are a small, energetic, and innovative team capable of responding with agility to new product complexities or schedules and are continuously improving the current acoustic test solutions.
About You:
We are looking for an inquisitive engineer with initiative to bring new ideas to fruition for the team. The right person will enjoy being challenged and solving tough problems. They will strive to improve the way things are done and will actively debate how and be engaged in doing so.
As an acoustic test engineer, you should have expertise in acoustics and automated audio testing, electrical engineering, and experience programming with LabVIEW/Test Stand software and other test software platforms (AP, Matlab, Python, etc.). As a candidate, you must also have organizational and project management skills, and the ability to write concise and clear reports, and be fluent in English as a second language.
On our team, you will help ATG to 1) develop acoustic test sequences and stations at our CMs, 2) be present at builds to monitor and troubleshoot issues and audit CMs when necessary, 3) process test data and provide data analysis (MSA, Cpk, build reports), and 4) aid with knowledge transfer, processes, and documentation related to acoustic test.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Bose engineering team to 1) develop test requirements, 2) create test plans, 3) develop, implement, and troubleshoot test sequences, and 4) design, verify, and troubleshoot acoustic test fixtures.
- Understand the functions and maintenance of test hardware and software, the acoustic measurements performed, and the product knowledge needed to support test.
- Help to coordinate GR&R and other test experiments to ensure data quality and robustness and help document test processes and production test results.
- Frequent travel to support Bose product builds primarily in southeast China, Vietnam, and Thailand. Extended stay may be required during travel.
- Work to troubleshoot acoustic test issues, run necessary troubleshooting experiments, collect data, and report out to ATG, Bose Engineering, and Bose management as necessary.
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in developing and implementing audio/acoustic manufacturing tests and troubleshooting manufacturing and test processes for high volume consumer electronic production lines.
- Experience making acoustic measurements and minimizing sources of error.
- Excellent test debugging skills; able to root cause product firmware, manufacturing test software/hardware/process issues.
Skills Required:
- Knowledge in electrical engineering, test engineering, acoustics and/or audio measurements.
- Knowledge related to acoustic tuning, audio signal path/algorithm in the passive loudspeakers, Bluetooth speakers, and microphone audio path/algorithm in the smart speaker.
- Knowledge in basic digital signal processing and spectral analysis such as FFT, filtering, etc.
- Knowledge with transducers, passive loudspeakers, and/or professional audio products.
- Familiarity with audio interfaces (e.g I2S, HDMI, etc.) and common communication interfaces (e.g. I2C, ethernet, etc.)
- Familiarity with automated defect detection (Rub and Buzz testing) and related failure mode analysis
- Experience in troubleshooting and/or verifying complex test systems using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Experience with project management and ability to work in global cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with Matlab, SoundCheck, Klippel, and TestStand.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Mandarin and English.
- Basic knowledge of statistics to calculate/understand process capability.
Education:
- BS in Electrical Engineering, acoustic/audio engineering, or related field.
- Recommended: MS degree in electrical engineering, acoustic/audio engineering, or related field.
