The mission:
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, maintaining accounting records, preparing reconciliations, and supporting month-end and year-end closing activities. This role is highly operational and focused on maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the company's financial information while ensuring compliance with internal policies and applicable accounting and tax regulations.
The expected outcome:
- General Accounting
- Record journal entries, including cash receipts, disbursements, and general ledger transactions.
- Process and post vendor invoices, employee expenses, payroll entries, and other financial transactions.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date accounting records and account reconciliations.
- Prepare adjusting and reclassification entries as needed.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain supporting schedules and account analyses.
- Ensure accounting records are backed by proper documentation.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare account reconciliations and closing schedules.
- Assist in preparing financial reports and supporting documentation.
- Ensure assigned close activities are completed accurately and on time.
- Prepare operational accounting reports, as requested by management.
- Maintain electronic and physical accounting files.
- Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and readily available for review.
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or progress toward certification is a plus, but not required.
- 2–4 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial operations.
- Experience performing reconciliations and general ledger accounting.
- Experience in fintech, financial services, accounting firms, or fast-growing companies is preferred.
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles.
- Knowledge of financial reporting processes.
- Experience with ERP and accounting systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, ASPEL, CONTPAQi, or similar).
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and data analysis.
- Experience working with electronic invoicing and accounting documentation.
