Collaboration. Authenticity. Connection. Balance.

At Cohere, we believe community is the most valuable amenity.

We do more than manage communities—we help create places where people connect, belong, and thrive. By partnering with some of the nation's most innovative master-planned communities, we create places residents are proud to call home and where meaningful relationships flourish.

We're looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to join our corporate team in Phoenix, AZ. In this role, you'll lead a team of accounting professionals, oversee critical accounts receivable and payable functions, and strengthen the systems and processes that support our growing portfolio of communities.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who understands the complexities of community association accounting, enjoys developing people, and knows how to balance financial accuracy with exceptional service.

At Cohere, we believe in owning the outcome, practicing thoughtful stewardship, and building strong partnerships. We're looking for someone who brings that same approach to financial leadership.

If you're someone who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and helping teams succeed, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

Lead and Develop the Accounting Team

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, providing direction, coaching, and support to accounting associates across multiple functions and locations.
  • Lead accounts receivable activities while supporting accounts payable operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistent service.
  • Establish clear expectations, strengthen accountability, and create opportunities for team training and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative, people-first environment where team members feel supported and take ownership of their work.

Oversee Financial Operations and Reporting

  • Provide oversight of accounts receivable functions, including billing, cash receipts, deposits, collections, refunds, owner transfers, and developer and builder transactions.
  • Support accounts payable processes, including vendor payments, tax-related transactions, and annual reporting requirements.
  • Monitor delinquency cycles, ensuring compliance with association governing documents and established collection procedures.
  • Prepare and review financial and operational reporting, tracking key accounting metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with senior accounting leadership on general ledger maintenance, account research, internal controls, and audit support.
  • Help ensure accurate financial records and timely communication with internal teams, community stakeholders, and external partners.

Strengthen Systems and Processes

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Support the implementation, administration, and ongoing improvement of accounting and community management software platforms.
  • Develop and document procedures, provide systems training, and help team members make effective use of available technology.
  • Leverage technology and reporting tools to streamline work, improve visibility, and support informed decision-making.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and help ensure accounting practices remain consistent across communities.

Support Community Growth and Partnerships

  • Lead accounting setup and onboarding for new communities and association phases, including owner records, balances, assessments, vendors, and collection processes.
  • Partner with community leadership, developers, vendors, banking partners, and internal teams to resolve accounting matters and support community needs.
  • Interpret association governing documents and apply financial policies consistently and accurately.
  • Approach challenges with transparency, collaboration, and a commitment to resolving issues rather than simply passing them along.
  • Practice responsible financial stewardship that protects the long-term interests of Cohere and the communities we serve.
What We're Looking For
  • 7+ years of management or general accounting experience, including at least 3 years of direct responsibility for accounts receivable within community management.

  • Strong knowledge of accounts receivable operations, billing, collections, financial reporting, and accounting controls.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, required.
  • Strong technical aptitude and experience working across multiple business platforms, databases, and collaborative tools. Familiarity with platforms such as SharePoint, Monday.com, or similar systems is valuable.
  • Experience identifying process improvements, implementing new workflows, and training teams on accounting systems.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively across departments.
