What this role is all about

Strong financial operations help create the foundation for exceptional guest experiences and successful hotel performance. As the Accounting Manager, you’ll oversee daily accounting operations while helping ensure financial accuracy, compliance, operational efficiency, and strong internal controls across the property.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment and enjoys balancing accounting operations, reporting, financial analysis, team coordination, and operational support. You’ll partner closely with hotel leadership and finance teams to support reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, audits, and day-to-day accounting functions that keep hotel operations running smoothly.

What you’ll be doing

• Manage daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, reconciliations, journal entries, and cash management activities. 

• Prepare and review financial statements, variance reporting, operational analysis, forecasts, and supporting accounting documentation. 

• Support budgeting, forecasting, labor analysis, operational reporting, and expense management initiatives across hotel departments. 

• Ensure compliance with accounting procedures, internal controls, audit requirements, ownership reporting, tax regulations, and company financial policies. 

• Oversee month-end close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, operational audits, and financial reporting deadlines. 

• Partner closely with operational leaders, Human Resources, Revenue Management, and hotel departments to support business operations and financial performance initiatives. 

• Monitor invoice processing, purchasing controls, inventory reviews, vendor management, and operational finance processes. 

• Supervise, train, coach, and support accounting team members to ensure operational consistency, workflow efficiency, and professional development. 

• Maintain strong knowledge of hotel accounting systems, PMS platforms, procurement systems, payroll systems, and financial reporting tools. 

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting accuracy, operational efficiency, reporting processes, and financial controls across the property. 

• Support capital projects, operational audits, ownership reporting, and additional financial initiatives as needed. 

• Help foster a collaborative, analytical, and business-focused culture aligned with Sonesta’s People People philosophy. 

• Any other duties as assigned. 

 

What great looks like 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Hospitality Management, or related field preferred. 

• 3+ years of accounting, hospitality finance, hotel accounting, or financial reporting experience preferred. 

• Previous Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Hotel Accountant, Finance Supervisor, or hospitality accounting leadership experience preferred. 

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, payroll support, and internal controls. 

• Experience using hotel accounting systems, PMS platforms, Excel, procurement systems, payroll systems, and financial reporting tools preferred. 

• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. 

• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced hospitality environment. 

• Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, compliance, operational efficiency, and financial integrity. 

• Experience supporting audits, month-end close processes, cash controls, and balance sheet management preferred. 

• CPA track, accounting certifications, or hospitality finance experience preferred. 

• Flexible availability including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and operational support as needed. 

• A passion for hospitality, financial operations, teamwork, operational excellence, and supporting exceptional guest experiences through strong business performance.
