The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring that The Museum’s financial records accurately reflect the Museum’s operations. This includes review and approval of recorded transactions in Financial Edge and consolidation of the resultant financial results. This role is also the primary contact for coordination and submission of reports, data, and back-up for the annual audit and tax filing (Form 990). 
Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain schedules for fixed assets, work in process, prepaid expenses, deferred admissions, and others as needed 
  • Track all current and future planned capital expenditures including organizing and facilitating a monthly meeting of capital expenditure project leaders
  • Reconciliation of non-cash balance sheet accounts 
  • Oversee monthly recording of all contributed and membership revenue activity, including reconciliation between accounting records and donor database and posting corrections, as needed. 
  • Track and circulate all stock donations during the year 
  • Work with Foundation & Corporate grant teams on grant applications & reporting 
  • Track and properly record all Rights & Licensing, Publications, and Catering Commissions, and other ancillary revenue streams 
  • Partner with the Office of People & Culture to ensure all benefit expenses and holding amounts are properly recorded throughout the year including reconciliation of certain benefit accounts on a monthly basis 
  • System Administration of accounting software (Financial Edge NXT) – including setting up new accounts, approving and posting journal entries/subledgers, and researching and implementing system upgrades and enhancements 
  • Assist Director of Accounting & Finance with interim and year end audit process by providing schedules and support to outside auditors 
  • Assist Director of Accounting & Finance with Form 990 and state charitable registration process by providing schedules and support to outside tax preparers 
  • Ad-hoc reporting and other special projects and intermittent reporting as needed 
  • Work with Director of Accounting & Finance to review and improve department’s operations and systems

  • The Accounting Manager is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of sensitive financial, employee, donor, vendor, and institutional information. All confidential information must be handled with discretion and shared only with authorized individuals in accordance with Museum policies and applicable requirements.
Education Background and Degree Required
  • Bachelors - Accounting (4-year degree). CPA preferred. 
Desired Experience and Training
  • Non-profit experience; preferably with a cultural (art) institution.
  • 5-7 years accounting experience. 
Specific Knowledge, Ability and/or Skills  
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems required; Blackbaud (Financial Edge, Raiser’s Edge) system desirable. 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word, required.  
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines. 
Compensation & Benefits
  • This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary range of $90,000-$100,000
