Business Overview

Novanta’s Corporate and Shared Services teams play an important role in executing the company’s strategic mission and operations. Included in Corporate and Shared Services are the business functions including Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Development and Corporate Marketing. The Corporate and Shared Services teams work closely with all Novanta business units to support operating initiatives contributing to the organization’s financial success.

Summary

The Shared Services Accounting Manager is the Sales & Use tax expert for the United States. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing State related indirect tax calculations, reconciliations, reporting, and audit support.

Primary Responsibilities

• Review business sales & use tax, gross receipts, and property tax returns and supporting documentation to ensure accurate and timely tax compliance.
• Manage all indirect tax audits, inquiries, and data gathering.
• Lead the implementation of a use tax software solution.
• Support improving, automating, and implementing tax processes and workflows.
• Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations for sales & use tax and other non-income tax accounts to ensure accuracy.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on indirect tax issues (Sales, Customer Care, Accounts Payable, Credit & Collections, Procurement, IT)
• Train cross-functional teams on indirect tax requirements
• Support M&A diligence specific to sales and use tax and property tax
• Keep up to date on new tax developments and legislative changes.
• Other special projects and tasks as assigned.

General Tasks

• Maintain strict compliance with the quality, environmental and occupational health and safety regulations and implementation of the instructions of the quality, environmental management and/or occupational health and safety officer.

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or MBA a plus
• 8+ years of indirect tax experience
• Experience with top tier ERP systems
• Experience with Alteryx and Avalara is a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong presentation and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, proactively and self-manage competing priorities
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills
• Project management experience preferred.

• Less than 10%

• Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
• Ability to use vison to read computer screen and read printed materials
