36 million businesses in America need insurance—it's not optional. 77% are underinsured. 40% have no coverage at all. The distribution system failed them: too slow, too opaque, too confusing.
Over 90% of commercial insurance is still human-led. We're building the inverse: 90%+ AI-led, pushing toward the higher 90s. Not by patching legacy workflows—by building AI that makes humans more effective, improves the customer experience, and eliminates friction at every step.
We're adding ~1,000 customers per month. We've grown 100x since last year. We're looking to do even more this year—and that's why we're hiring.
We don't have a finance department. You're building it.
The ThesisGrowing 100x in a year means the finance function has to evolve just as fast. We have the fundamentals in place, but the company is scaling faster than the infrastructure behind it. What works for a 20-person team doesn't work for a 100-person one. Someone has to take what exists, build what's missing, and design the financial operating system that carries us through the next 10x.
Every process you design, every control you implement, every report you build becomes the foundation the company runs on. This is the role where you shape how Harper understands its own business—unit economics, cash deployment, capital allocation—and make sure the numbers are airtight as the stakes get higher.
The RoleYou're the finance function on the ground. You'll work directly with our CFO, a seasoned finance executive who has scaled multiple companies through IPO, and you'll be their trusted operator at Harper. The first 6–9 months are heavily focused on building: processes, controls, systems, and the financial infrastructure that matches the pace of the business. You'll inherit existing work and team members, take what's here, and professionalize it.
This is a rare opportunity to learn how institutional-grade finance gets built at a high-growth company, with direct mentorship from someone who has done it before. If you execute well, the path is clear, this role is designed to grow into a Head of Finance as the company scales.

You're a self-starter who identifies problems and drives solutions without waiting for direction
You're comfortable operating in ambiguity and creating structure where none exists
