As an Accounting Associate, you will play an important role in delivering accurate, timely, and understandable financial information to our clients. You will work directly with clients and alongside experienced accounting professionals to maintain client books, prepare financial statements, resolve accounting issues, and support month-end and year-end accounting processes.

This role is ideal for an accounting professional who wants to strengthen their technical skills, gain experience managing multiple client relationships, and continue developing toward a senior-level accounting position.

In This Role, You Will
  • Deliver accurate and timely accounting services for an assigned group of clients.
  • Maintain client accounting records and prepare monthly financial statements.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Communicate with clients regarding questions, missing information, and accounting needs.
  • Identify unusual transactions or financial activity that requires additional review.
  • Work closely with Senior Accounting Associates and other team members to resolve accounting issues.
  • Continuously develop your technical accounting, software, and client service skills.
  • Look for opportunities to improve accounting processes and the overall client experience.
What You'll DoClient Service & Communication
  • Communicate with clients through phone, email, and virtual meetings.
  • Respond to routine client accounting questions in a professional and timely manner.
  • Request documentation and information needed to complete accounting work.
  • Explain basic accounting concepts in clear, easy-to-understand language.
  • Keep clients informed regarding outstanding items, deadlines, and project status.
  • Build positive client relationships through responsiveness, accuracy, and professionalism.
  • Escalate complex accounting or advisory questions to Senior Accounting Associates or managers when appropriate.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for assigned clients.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
  • Complete bank, credit card, loan, payroll, and other balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers.
  • Record adjusting journal entries and routine month-end entries.
  • Review general ledger activity for accuracy and proper classification.
  • Research unusual transactions and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Assist with accounting cleanup projects and historical corrections.
  • Use firm diagnostic tools and established review procedures to identify potential accounting issues.
  • Prepare financial information for review by Senior Accounting Associates and managers.
  • Maintain organized and complete documentation supporting accounting work.
Payroll & Sales Tax
  • Record and reconcile payroll activity.
  • Review payroll reports for accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Work with third-party payroll providers when necessary.
  • Assist with payroll-related accounting and reconciliations.
  • Prepare or assist with sales tax reports and filings.
  • Identify potential sales tax issues and escalate questions when additional research is needed.
Budgeting & Financial Analysis
  • Assist with preparing basic client budgets and forecasts.
  • Compare actual financial results to budgets and prior periods.
  • Identify significant fluctuations or unusual activity.
  • Assist senior team members with researching financial variances.
  • Develop the ability to identify trends and communicate basic financial observations to clients.
Project & Workflow Management
  • Manage accounting responsibilities across multiple client engagements.
  • Complete assigned work within established deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate task status and documentation within the firm's project management system.
  • Communicate proactively when additional information is needed or deadlines may be impacted.
  • Prioritize assignments based on client deadlines and firm expectations.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other accounting professionals.
  • Identify recurring workflow challenges and suggest opportunities for improvement.
Technology & Process Improvement
  • Work within Xero, QuickBooks Online, and other cloud-based accounting platforms.
  • Assist clients with routine accounting software questions.
  • Troubleshoot common accounting software issues.
  • Learn and utilize applications that integrate with client accounting systems.
  • Follow established firm processes while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Participate in training related to accounting systems, automation, and firm technology.
Required Technical SkillsAccounting Knowledge
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Understanding of debits, credits, and the accounting cycle.
  • Experience preparing or maintaining general ledger accounts.
  • Understanding of bank and balance sheet reconciliations.

Accounting Methods

Working knowledge of:

  • Cash basis accounting

Understand the basic differences between accounting methods and how transaction timing affects financial reporting.

Payroll
  • Basic understanding of payroll accounting.
  • Ability to record and reconcile payroll transactions.
  • Familiarity with payroll taxes and payroll reporting.
  • Experience working with third-party payroll providers is preferred.
Sales Tax
  • Basic understanding of sales tax concepts.
  • Ability to prepare or assist with sales tax reports and filings.
  • Ability to identify potential compliance issues requiring additional review.
Cloud Accounting Systems

Proficiency in one or more of the following is preferred:

  • QuickBooks Online

Experience with or willingness to learn:

  • Experience working in a public accounting firm, outsourced accounting environment, or Client Accounting Services (CAS) practice.
  • Experience working with multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of small business accounting.
  • Experience with Xero or QuickBooks Online.
  • Experience with real estate, restaurants, professional services, creative businesses, or other service-based companies is a plus.

Education

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Candidates currently completing an accounting degree or with equivalent relevant accounting experience may also be considered.

Professional certifications and continued professional development are encouraged.

Minimal travel required.

Occasional client meetings or firm events may require local travel.

Location & Schedule

This is a hybrid position.

Office Schedule
  • Three days per week in the Orlando office.
  • Mondays & Wednesdays are required in-office collaboration days.
  • Standard office hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Remote Schedule
  • Two flexible work-from-home days each week.
  • Flexible working hours with manager approval while meeting client and team commitments.
