Job Summary
The Accounting Assistant / Senior Assistant provides general accounting clerical support within the assigned Accounting Department. Using in-depth knowledge and experience, this position will provide accounting clerical support around AEP remittance processing, refunds, and other accounting transactional data.Job Description
What You'll Do:
Prepare, process and review various accounting transactions such as remittance advices, and customer checks, while exercising independent judgment.
Research and resolve discrepancies related to recurring accounting transactions.
Assist in reviewing general ledger account activity for accuracy.
Assist in the development and documentation of processes and procedures.
Assist in the preparation of responses to general data requests and inquiries from AEP internal and external customers.
Develop and cultivate a positive business relationship between Accounting and other AEP business partners.
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
What We're Looking For:
Education and Work Experience requirements are listed below for the Accounting Assistant:
High School diploma or GED and 6 months experience.
2 years of post-high school experience working with accounting transactional data and invoice processing addition to any experience listed above.
Education and Work Experience requirements are listed below for the Accounting Assistant Senior:
Associate Degree in Business or Accounting or High School graduate/GED equivalent education and 8 additional years of accounting experience.
Associates degree and 5 years of in-depth experience with accounting transactional data, invoice processing, demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
High school or GED equivalent education and 8 additional years of accounting transactional data, invoice processing, demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word experience is required.
Other Must Haves:
Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions and adapt to changing circumstances and requirements.
Ability to work as part of a team and possess excellent time management and organization skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: List any physical demands required for this job When working in the Remittance Processing department, employee will be required to stand for extended periods of time up to 50% of the time and while standing will be required to lift up to 25 pounds.

-$55,000-$65,000 (Accounting Assistant Senior)

- Two years of post-high-school experience working with accounting transactional data and invoice processing for the Accounting Assistant level
- Associate degree in Business or Accounting, or high school diploma/GED with eight additional years of accounting experience, for the Accounting Assistant Senior level
- Associate degree plus five years of in-depth experience with accounting transactional data and invoice processing for the Accounting Assistant Senior level
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word for the Accounting Assistant Senior level
- Ability to multitask with frequent interruptions and adapt to changing circumstances and requirements
