Accounting Assistant- Accounts Payable

Job Purpose:
- The Accounting Assistant - Accounts Payable at SPANGLER CANDY COMPANY is responsible for supporting the financial operations by managing and processing accounts payable transactions. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate and timely payment of invoices, maintaining financial records, and supporting the overall financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
- Process and verify invoices for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure timely payment of vendor invoices and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain and update vendor files and records.
- Assist in monthly closing activities, including account reconciliations.
- Communicate effectively with vendors and internal departments to resolve payment issues.
- Prepare and maintain various financial reports for management review.
- Support the finance team in audits and other financial projects as needed.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures related to accounts payable functions.
- Continuously seek ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounts payable process.

Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.

Required Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in accounts payable or a similar accounting role.
- Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial record-keeping.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with vendors and internal departments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
- Familiarity with basic accounting principles and practices.
