POSITION OVERVIEW - The position follows a hybrid work model, requiring 1-2 days per week in our Minneapolis, MN office.

The Accounting and Payroll Specialist is responsible for administering payroll, maintaining the general ledger and balance sheet, and managing sales tax compliance. This role also provides guidance on Accounts Payable, prepares year-end financial statements, processes checks, and supports other accounting functions within the Finance Department.

Success in this role requires a keen attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams. The Accounting and Payroll Specialist will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure payroll accuracy, assist with financial audits, and support continuous process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities, skills, and knowledge may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with the position.

Accounting (Primary Focus)

  • Perform general bookkeeping, including processing cash receipts, balancing bank accounts, and issuing checks.
  • Reconcile financial records and report discrepancies or issues.
  • Manage the company’s general ledger, balance sheet, and amortization schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with sales tax regulations and filing requirements.
  • Generate year-end, monthly, and quarterly financial and audit reports.
  • Oversee asset classification including identifying, categorizing, and management.

Payroll

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on payroll processes, including weekly payroll administration.
  • Ensure accurate processing of employee wages, tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and garnishments.
  • Troubleshoot payroll issues and assist employees with pay-related inquiries.

Accounts Payable & Miscellaneous

  • Provide direction and oversight for Accounts Payable functions.
  • Assist with financial analysis and special projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on company needs.

Qualifications

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • Associate degree in Accounting (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience, including payroll processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and consistently deliver high-quality results.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve accounting and payroll issues effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and maintain focus and discipline.
  • Experience processing payroll, including tax withholdings, garnishments, and compliance with payroll regulations.
  • Ability to manage time-sensitive deadlines, multitask, and perform under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced skills preferred).
  • Experience with NetSuite is a plus.
  • Prior experience in the software subscription industry is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

COMPENSATION

  • Annual Salary is $65 K for this salaried, exempt Full-Time hybrid position
