The Role

We’re looking for an Accounting Analyst to support our Retirement Operations business unit! This is an individual contributor role responsible for ensuring accurate and timely accounting and reconciliation of designated suspense accounts. Reporting directly to the Manager, Risk & Controls Governance, the Accounting Analyst will also be responsible for accounting activities such as creating standard journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, and interpreting accounting data and reporting regulations through timely and accurate service delivery.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform accurate reconciliation of suspense accounts assigned in a timely manner and at required frequencies.

  • Analyze and investigate outstanding variances or issues to resolve discrepancies promptly and maintain the integrity of account balances.

  • Provide reconciliation results with commentaries reflecting the review and investigation completed on each account being managed.

  • Collaborate with operations staff to identify discrepancies, clear items efficiently, and prepare necessary journal entries to resolve any issues.

  • Maintain procedures and documentation as directed.

  • Support in the monthly close process, including but not limited to preparation of journal entries, financial statements, and Management reports.

  • Prepare monthly reconciliation reports for various accounts.

  • Ensure that the correct practices are established and being followed, such as separation of duties and monitored aging of outstanding balances.

  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as assigned to support overall operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience in accounting and financial services.

  • Demonstrated analytical and inquiry skills.

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (including Excel and MS Access).

  • Proficiency with JETS to create and post journal entries.

  • Strong oral/written communication skills required to interact with management and representatives from other functional departments.

  • Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently.

  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively in a deadline-oriented environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Essbase, GL Lawson, Infor, Cadency by Trintech, and Power BI would be an advantage.

  • Money Processing System (MPS) system knowledge.

Salary range is expected to be between

$50,700.00 CAD - $84,500.00 CAD
