Job Summary:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position will focus on a variety of key accounting areas, including: equity, equity compensation, goodwill and intangible assets, leases, workers’ compensation, debt and interest, fixed assets, cash and analytical procedures. As part of a collaborative team, you will be responsible for accounting processes and corporate matters that span across all of the Company's lines of business. **This position offers a flexible remote/hybrid work arrangement, with the requirement of attending monthly department meetings at our Chicago, IL headquarters.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform as a contributor in the Company’s corporate accounting group, focused on executing an accurate, timely, predictable and well-controlled close process
- Work independently to the extent possible and critically think through potentially complex or judgmental matters and understand the outputs of your work.
- Demonstrates continuous learning and retention of essential processes, expectations, and governing guidelines, including both internal policies and external regulations.
- Partner with the Chief Accounting Officer, Corporate Controller, Accounting Manager and other appropriate parties on the execution of internal controls over financial reporting with an objective of building a SOX-compliant accounting department
- Support inquiries from the Company’s Financial Planning & Analysis group, the Financial Reporting group and the Company’s independent auditors, as necessary
- Proactively communicate risks, opportunities, challenges and regular updates on progress to accounting group management
- Actively participate in ongoing company-wide projects and process improvement workstreams, assessing the impact on the accounting organization and participating in the team’s involvement with these projects
- Leverage experience with best practices to raise the effectiveness and efficiency of the overall accounting function
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is generally required, CPA is preferred but not required
- Up to four (4) years of experience in day-to-day accounting; may be either a mix of corporate accounting and national public accounting firm experience or all corporate accounting
- Candidate may be considered without a degree in Accounting if the candidate demonstrates additional practical experience in a corporate accounting setting and a solid understand of accounting principles and controls; additional preference given to candidates with experience in a healthcare payor setting
- Experience with or working knowledge of SOX compliance and controls execution required
- Level-appropriate understanding of US GAAP accounting principles
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel

- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and execute on multiple tasks concurrently

- Hybrid: Primarily remote with occasional attendance at our corporate office in Chicago, IL

Physical Requirements:
- Majority (90%) of work is conducted indoors in air-conditioned or well-ventilated facilities.
- Work is accomplished in an office or cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.
- The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
