Job Summary
This job performs various accounting activities in support of Thrivent Financial within the broader Accounting & Reporting function. The role supports the core insurance business as well as other corporate functions. Requires experienced, professional knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Performs a wide range of detailed accounting, reporting and analysis within assigned area, accounts or department. Assures day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies and objectives. Incumbent will work both independently as well as with peers and other levels across the organization while exercising professional judgment.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepares and records journal entries for the financial transactions of the organization, maintains ledgers, prepares detailed accounting information, and monthly reconciliations. Prepares standard accounting spreadsheets, reports and statements.
- Audit, resolve, and approve balances to ensure no discrepancies exist that would cause incorrect internal or external reporting. Exercise sound and professional judgement in the analysis of such discrepancies.
- Assist in preparing materials for internal and external auditors.
- Provides and independently implements solutions to less difficult problems. Recommends changes to accounting system leveraging knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Involved in the closing of key financial systems on monthly and quarterly basis.
- Implements changes in procedures affecting assigned function and assists with various project assignments. Incumbent may be cross-trained in various corporate and financial reporting disciplines.
- Expected to develop a basic knowledge of business functions supported within the department as well as other broad aspects of Thrivent.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and related Microsoft office products.
- Minimum 1-3 years working experience in accounting and/or reporting.
Preferred:
- Passed the Certified Public Accountant exam.
- Experience with PeopleSoft general ledger.
- Experience in statutory accounting and reporting.

- This position allows a flexible work arrangement meaning you may work on-site and/or remotely from the Minneapolis, MN or Appleton, WI area.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $52,785.00 - $71,416.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
