About This Role

The Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting for assigned shareholder and real estate holdings within the Taggart Group of Companies. The role supports accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting, maintains complete accounting records, and provides financial information to internal stakeholders. This hands-on position works closely with the Corporate Accounting and Tax team and other departments across the Group.


Major Responsibilities

  • Complete full-cycle accounting for assigned shareholder entities and real estate holdings within the Taggart Group of Companies.
  • Maintain daily and monthly accounting records through trial balance, including general ledger entries and supporting schedules.
  • Process and review invoices, cheque requisitions, payments, billings, and collections in accordance with established deadlines, approvals, and policies.
  • Maintain and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable records and follow up with suppliers or internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly bank, intercompany, and HST reconciliations and related remittances.
  • Maintain investment schedules and record other recurring entries monthly.
  • Prepare month-end working papers, ensuring sub-ledgers are balanced and account balances are reconciled, analyzed, and supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Prepare cash flow statements
  • Provide financial information and accounting support to departments across the Group.
  • Ensure financial records comply with established accounting policies, procedures, approval requirements, and internal controls; report discrepancies promptly.
  • Assist with system testing, process improvements, special projects, and other accounting or administrative duties as required.

Statement of Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three to five years of progressive full-cycle accounting experience.
  • Experience preparing month-end files, account reconciliations, financial statements, and variance analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with an accounting or enterprise resource planning system is an asset.
  • Experience in a multi-company environment, corporate shared services, real estate accounting, or property accounting is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
  • A professional accounting designation, or progress toward one, is an asset.

Physical/Sensory Effort and Work Environment

  • Regular sitting or standing for extended periods while working at a workstation.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet month-end, year-end, or other reporting deadlines.
