Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant & Payroll Specialist based in Costa Rica to support Inteldot’s financial, payroll, and compliance operations. This role combines payroll management, statutory reporting, general accounting, and treasury responsibilities within Costa Rica.
In addition, this position will support our operations in the United States and Puerto Rico. If the selected candidate does not possess prior experience with U.S. or Puerto Rico payroll and tax regulations, Inteldot will provide training on the applicable laws, processes, and internal procedures.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience with Costa Rica’s payroll legislation, CCSS and INS procedures, electronic invoicing, tax reporting, and month-end closing activities while being eager to learn cross-jurisdictional processes.
Duties & Responsibilities
Costa Rica Payroll & Labor Compliance
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing in compliance with Costa Rican labor and tax legislation.
- Process employee deductions, vacations, overtime, incapacities, and settlements (liquidaciones).
- Ensure proper calculation and payment of CCSS contributions, INS premiums, aguinaldo, and accrued benefits.
- Manage CCSS/INS onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records.
Support for U.S. and Puerto Rico Operations
- Assist with payroll, accounting, and reporting tasks related to U.S. and Puerto Rico operations.
- Support tax filings, reconciliations, and documentation requirements as assigned.
- Learn and apply federal and state payroll rules, as well as Puerto Rico local regulations, under Inteldot’s training.
- Collaborate with U.S./PR finance teams to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Statutory Reporting & Compliance (Costa Rica)
- Prepare and file IVA, income tax declarations, municipal taxes, and withholding reports.
- Ensure compliance with electronic invoicing requirements under Ministerio de Hacienda.
General Accounting
- Support A/P, A/R, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end closings.
- Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and support external audits.
Treasury & Cash Management
- Monitor cash flow and treasury movements.
- Process payments, collections, and treasury reporting.
- Maintain payment schedules and banking documentation.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Update and maintain accounting and payroll systems (QuickBooks, Excel, or other platforms).
- Identify process improvement opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 2–3 years of experience in accounting or payroll roles in Costa Rica.
- Strong understanding of Costa Rican labor laws, CCSS, INS, and tax regulations.
- Intermediate/advanced Excel proficiency and experience with accounting systems.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills in Spanish; English proficiency preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ERP systems such as Sage300, SAP, Odoo, or similar.
- Experience with Accounting systems such as Sage50, QuickBooks or similar.
- Experience working with multinational companies.
- Continuing education in tax, payroll, or finance.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods working at a computer.
- Ability to attend virtual and in-person meetings as required.
