Revenue Accountant

Working as part of a collaborative accounting team, the Revenue Accountant will support all aspects of the revenue cycle within the organization. This position has specific responsibilities in revenue accounting and billing processes within the organization, including day-to-day revenue recognition and accounting functions, performing monthly close processes, fulfilling interdepartmental reporting requests, managing all facets of the billing process, maintaining an effective control environment as well as coordinating with the finance team. 

Responsibilities 

  • Support monthly accounting and billing operations for a timely and accurate closing process. 

  • Review contract setups in the accounting system for proper billing and revenue recognition. 

  • Process billings from a variety of sources per contract terms (recurring, renewals, milestone billing). 

  • Assist operations managers to ensure timely billing of event-based milestones. 

  • Perform detailed reviews of revenue and billing as part of the normal month-end closing. 

  • Prepare journal entries to support month-end closing activities. 

  • Review client contracts for proper revenue recognition (POC, milestone, SaaS, perpetual/term). 

  • Learn and gain an understanding of software revenue recognition principles, ensuring compliance with ASC 606. 

  • Create detailed revenue schedules as needed for management and reporting purposes. 

  • Prepare and present financials to management and support internal teams with ad-hoc requests. 

  • Partner with internal teams and business partners to define, establish and implement accounting processes and procedures. 

  • Assist in the annual external audit by preparing, reviewing, and organizing required documentation. 

 

Qualifications 
Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or equivalent relevant work experience 

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and thorough understanding of GAAP 

  • High-level of proficiency in MS Office Suite, with advanced knowledge of MS Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.) 

  • Highly motivated with the ability to shift priorities, work independently and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy 

Preferred 

  • 2+ years of revenue recognition experience in a software or technology company that has complex and recurring revenue streams 

  • Experience working with cloud-based ERP systems (Great Plains, Softrax, FinancialForce, Oracle, Workday, etc.) 

  • Experience with SalesForce or other CRM's
