The Accountant II role performs professional accounting work including the examination, analysis, maintenance, reconciliation, and verification of financial records. This position includes the preparation of internal and external financial reporting, investment accounting, regulatory filings, and ledger analysis.

The ideal candidate will live within driving distance of the Omaha, Nebraska office. This position allows remote flexibility but will have 1 day per week in the office.  

If living in one of our approved states (Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Texas)  – this person may travel to our headquarters.

What you'll do:

  • Perform general and financial reporting accounting activities, including preparation and posting of journal entries, monthly accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze schedules supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external financial reporting requirements, including supplemental regulatory filings and statutory reporting as applicable.
  • Apply accounting techniques and standard practices to classify, record, and reconcile financial transactions while ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Prepare segments of financial statements, management reports, trial balances, and supporting analyses used in decision-making and regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain responsibility for investment accounting activities, including investment schedules, analysis, private investment accounting, and related reconciliations.
  • Assist with accounting and reporting related to reinsurance arrangements, supplemental filings, and other specialized financial reporting requirements.
  • Conduct statement analysis and evaluate financial and operational data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Perform cash, investment, and general ledger account oversight, ensuring balances are appropriately supported and reconciled.
  • Research accounting principles, regulatory guidance, and financial reporting requirements and apply findings to daily assignments and projects.
  • Partner with internal and external auditors to support financial audits, provide requested documentation, and address audit inquiries.
  • Participate in assignments and projects involving financial analysis, process enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, accounting standards, and federal and state regulatory requirements.

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Two (2) or more years of accounting or financial reporting experience.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement support schedules.
  • Knowledge of general ledger accounting, accrual accounting, and financial reporting concepts.
  • Experience with investment accounting, statutory reporting, or insurance accounting is preferred.

Skills Required
