 Accountant I

  • Assists the Tax Compliance Department with payroll taxes for international students and employees. This includes entering tax information in tax system, preparing spreadsheet with calculations for nonresident taxes, VLOOKUP's, customer services such as gathering the proper documentation to determine the income tax status and the handling of treaty benefits when applicable. 
  • Provides administrative support to the department which includes but not limited to controlling the walk-in traffic in the office by setting up appointment and answering group email about tax certification, international payroll and vendor tax related issues. 
  • Prepares journal entry templates for Accounting and Treasury Offices to process for tax deposits, benefit deductions, and other vendor payments, such as wires and ACH withdrawals. Assists the Assistant Manager of Tax Compliance with maintenance and reconciliation of the payroll liabilities accounts associated with employee and employer payments. This includes calculation of employee benefits and uploading the 401K/403b information for payment processing. 
  • Assists and/or prepares the sale and use tax, 1042, 941, 1099 and W-2 when required. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

    Accountant II

  • Reviews and controls accounts and records to ensure accuracy, proper documentation, and compliance with all pertinent procedures and regulations. Prepares complex journal entries accordingly. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of accounting standards, cash management procedures, and applicable regulations related to banking activity, unclaimed property, and financial reporting. 
  • Performs and maintains timely and accurate reconciliations for multiple University bank accounts, including operating, payroll, Bursar, accounts payable, etc. Promptly investigates and resolves reconciling items and outstanding transactions. 
  • Monitors outstanding and stale-dated checks, performs due diligence procedures, and assists with unclaimed property reporting and compliance. Prepares various account reconciliations and accounting analyses as needed. 
  • Assists with month-end close activities, account analyses, and ad hoc accounting functions and reporting requests to support departmental operations and financial reporting. 
  • Coordinates with internal departments, banking institutions, and external agencies to resolve banking and reconciliation issues and ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures. 

    Accountant III

  • Performs complex accounting and financial analysis functions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards and institutional policies. Prepares and reviews complex journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of GAAP, GASB, FASB, and other applicable accounting and reporting standards to support financial reporting requirements and compliance.
  • Serves as primary support for month-end and annual financial reporting processes, including preparation of financial statements, schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Provides financial analysis, reporting support, and assistance with special projects, system implementations, and process improvements.
  • Assists with allocations, account reconciliations, audit requests, surveys, and ad hoc accounting analysis as needed.
  • Performs other related duties and ad hoc financial reporting or accounting functions as assigned.
Qualifications

Accountant I

Bachelor’s degree in relevant area and two (2) years appropriate experience. Relevant experience may substitute for required education.

Accountant II

Bachelor’s degree Accounting or related area and Three (3) years of accounting experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Accountant III

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years accounting experience. Relevant experience may substitute for required education.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Three (3) years of accounting experience (or equivalent combination of education, training, experience)
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.; employer will not sponsor visas
  • Experience preparing complex journal entries and month-end close support
  • Experience performing bank and general ledger reconciliations for multiple accounts
  • Knowledge of accounting standards, cash management procedures, and related regulations
