Accountant II

Position Summary

The Accountant II is responsible for overseeing key areas of the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and supporting the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. This role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies while also assisting with financial analysis, audits, and process improvements. The Senior Accountant works closely with the Accounting Manager, Controller, and other cross-functional teams and may provide guidance to junior accounting staff.

 Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain and reconcile complex balance sheet accounts, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and intercompany accounts.
  • Prepare and review financial statement fluctuations and variance analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
  • Support external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
  • Review and assist in improving accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes as needed.
  • Provide guidance and review work prepared by entry-level or staff accountants.
  • Assist with sales tax, use tax, and other regulatory filings as required.
  • Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and process automation initiatives.
  • Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual variances in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned areas.
  • Experience improving processes and strengthening internal controls.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions such as pivot tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, etc.).
  • Experience working with ERP/accounting systems.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 2-4 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Public accounting and/or manufacturing industry experience preferred.
  • CPA license or CPA track strongly preferred.
  • Experience with audits, financial reporting, and month-end close required.
  • ERP system experience required (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Sage, or similar).
